Britannia Fixed Rate Mini Cash ISA

Hi,
Last year i had a regular mini cash isa with britannia paying a low rate. In October i changed it to a Fixed Rate Mini Cash ISA. This was fixed at 6.55% till October 2008 so seemed a good deal.
I'm aware I can open a new ISA as from now as new tax year.
I was just going to pop down and open a new standard isa account with them but noticed that they've got another fixed one on their website: http://www.britannia.co.uk/c_savings/product/tax_free/frisa/prod.html
It is fixed at 5.6%. This is not as much as the other one.
BUT I'm thinking this will be OK for now and hopefully along the line they may have another higher interest option I could transfer it in to again - or not?
I've got the full amount ready to transfer in to and will not require it for a year. Just wish to make the best use of it. Only want Britannia only though for local ease.
Thanks.

It has been posted in main savings section that Brittannia have been offering 6.1% fixed rate to those whose Fixed ISAs are maturing.
I realise yours isnt maturing till October, just thought ud appreciate the info about how Brittannia behave, it appears that people have to ask about the 6.1% rate.
Havent u got a Nationwide BS in your locality?

Post no 9 here.Same thing has been posted on other forums as well, it appears people have to say to Brittannia "My fixed ISA with you is maturing, because your ISA rates are now rubbish im going to transfer out" they then get offered 6.1% Fixed Rate.
Where is the "fairness"

If u really want a Brittannia 2008/09 ISA u could ask them if they will let u have the 6.1% Fix in the interests of " Fairness" being as they appear to be offering it to some people.
I find it strange as a Brittannia BS member of 12 years that some people are able to get higher fixed rate ISAs than are available to myself and others. _pale_
Never mind as things stand i shall be going for Bradford and Bingley 6.25% Fix, which is a higher rate despite them having Shareholders to pay and "bubbly to buy for the Shareholder meetings." :laugh:0 -

Whoa there. Not quite yet, the tax years starts on April 6th.I've got the full amount ready to transfer in to and will not require it for a year. Just wish to make the best use of it. Only want Britannia only though for local ease.
If Britannia BS really is the only organisation you have locally be aware that you can operate Yorkshire BS accounts from Britannia branches using the Mutual Plus arrangement between them. Although, in your case if you have the full £3600 to deposit when opening it wouldn't help you in this case.
p.s. If the £3600 is in another Britannia account you can always get them to write a counter cheque and use it to open an ISA elsewhere.:D0 -
So i could get a 6.1% from them just by asking?
I would guess i would be better off having mini cash isa (variable) and hoping that come October next year again they have a decent fixed rather?
Rather than putting it in their advertised fixed rate one of 5.6%?

All I said was there is nothing to stop u asking Brittannia if they would .......
I read in paper today that Yorkshire BS ISA anniversary fixed rate for April is 6%, March rate is still showing on webpage.

:rotfl: I'm sorry Bristolleedsfan, but when I read your text, especially "Nobody said that...", I imagined you slapping your monitor and tut tutting! You must be gentle with us newbies or those that just don't listen!
Anyways, you make a serious point i.e. if you don't ask, you don't get!
Bye for now!Free thinker.:cool:0 -
Hi,
Just to confirm I rang about my options.
The 6.1% is available but ONLY if you are coming out of a fixed rate ending in April.
Fair enough i guess.
I think i'll look at decent online alternatives.

I was being gentle. :rotfl: I didnt put any red smiles up did I like
True I was making two points, One about 6.1% Fixed Rate being available to those coming off fixed rates who ask for it and secondly like u picked up "if u dont ask u dont get" :T0
