Halifax....cant pay in!

The Halifax continue to amaze me.
TOday I went into the branch and queued to pay in £140....£20 in a cheque and the rest cash....and was told sorry you cant pay in under £250 at the counter any more you have to use a machine...so off I go to the machine and queue there for another 10 minutes and lo and behold it wouldnt accept one of my £20 notes.....I tried 4 times causing much tutting from the rest of the queue.
I re-queued at the counter to tell them only to be told, well on THIS occasion they would take my £20, but in future I MUST use the machine. After explaining and showing the receipt to PROVE I HAD used the machine but it wouldnt accept my money I was told ' well theres a normal machine out front which takes cash so you must use that in future.
I JUST WANTED TO PAY IN SOME MONEY!!!!!!!!! THE MACHINE DIDNT WORK!!!!
Are the Halifax deliberately making it IMPOSSIBLE to pay money into an account and then when the direct debits fail they have a reason to charge extortionate fees?
It just took me 35 minutes to pay in £140, BUT apparently they sent me new terms and conditions in april 2007 and if I had read them I would have known that I have to use a machine from now.....(even if the darned machine doesnt work...........)

The casher dealt with you seemed worse than the machine. Not surprised that they are going to be replaced by the machine.0

Can i ask what account you have? Does this apply to all halifax accounts now?0

I have only used the machine twice, the first time it broke just as I put my card in and the second time it took my money then broke leaving me with no card or receipt ( I had to queue at the reception desk for 10 mins to get my card back and they did post a receipt)Wins

I'm a bit surprised they took your £20 at the counter.
Weren't they suspicious that there was something dodgy about it?
After all, if the machine said no ...
I'm only joking, yvie.
I know how tempermental these machines can be.
In the Halifax branch I frequent most (only when I have to, I assure you),
there almost always seems to be one of the bank staff puzzling over a problem with it.
To put the bank's side of the argument (for a second), there was a considerable period in that branch when a notice was stuck up on each of the glass panels separating you off from the cashiers that they were going to restrict the paying-in of monies at the counter from a couple of account types. As mine wasn't one of them, I took no further interest and can't remember now which account types they were. But I did assume that they would have written to account holders informing them of this - even if it was only by sending them an updated copy of the T&C.Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.

My Local branch had huge posters in the queue and leaflets for you to take away for a number of weeks stating that all Easycash and Cardcash accounts would need to use the machines for depositing and withdrawing cash. I personally always found it quicker to use the machine as there was normally a queue for the counters.
I have also had no problem paying money in at the counter when either the machine has been playing up, Or I've not had my card with me and just my acc details on a bit of paper. (This goes for Branches in Milton Keynes & Aylesbury)

This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

a few years ago i paid a large cheque (inheritance) over the counter for my card cash account (at the time, i dont know now, there were limits on ammounts you could pay in to machines) i spent most of my lunchtime trying to explain to the numpty behind the desk that i could not pay it in through the machine as it was over the limit!! eventually after talking to the manager it was decided that she could take it!! anyone would had thought they didn't want my money.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

That's why I closed my account with them, one of the girls was so rude, she said it's lunchtime we don't take deposits, I asked what her job was, why she was then sat at the counter and that maybe, oh just maybe she could get me a closure form. Any particular reason? she asked.I'm a bit surprised they took your £20 at the counter.
