We still have blankets & sheets, the blankets are merino wool, cost a fortune, but have so far lasted 23yrs!!!
Sheets are more of a problem, we can't find the heavy weight cotton ones any more, so its trial & error when we buy new ones. Most of our sheets are also 23 yrs old!!!!
Children all have fitted shets & duvets, mind you DD2 used to love our bed with all the weight of the blankets

    :hello:
Yes we have merino wool blanket, well its not really a blanket its a quilt, sort of, but it is quite heavy and soooooo warm.Bought it on a blanket trip in Benidorm a few of years ago,(very expensive, but worth every penny) king size on a double bed.Must admit we still have a top sheet, its what you get used to I suppose.
Heavy weight cotton sheets are a problem, but I went on internet and saw some egyptian cotton ones, lovely. I need pure cotton as I get eczema, but must say that seems to have calmed down since we had our merino wool thingy!!!

  • Sorry, its a duvet for me too. Both me & DS have a 15tog duvet all year (I'm always cold!!) and we have a fleecy blanket for the winter, however I haven't needed the blanket this winter as my house now has cavity wall and loft insulation and its made a huge difference.

I do remember having flannellete (sp) sheets and lots of blankets on my bed when I was a kid and how long it took to make the beds on a morning! The duvet is so much warmer and lighter, as well as being easy to sort out when changing and making the bed.

Duvets for me too. We actually go a size larger than the size of the bed ie. king size for a double bed and double for a single one. This way some duvet is left when one person turns over.

We do that too, or we did. I have a feather superking size duvet which was on our King bed.
But when we changed our bed about 12 months ago, we went for a Superking size bed. I have to say it is brilliant....I love having sooooo much room. So now, the quilt fits the bed and I have a king size throwover on top, which keeps the grubby cat off the white quilt cover.

oh I love the feeling of sheets and blankets... The problem is finding blankets. you can goto Asda and get duvets galore but you have to hunt for a good blanket!

It was only when I went down to my mums and we went shopping and looked and looked. Eventually found a double blanket at a cost but BOY is it worth it! One under the fitted sheet and one on top of the sheet. Slide into bed like a letter into an envelope and pull up the quilt. Who needs bedroom heating ;)

Duevts, definitely! I remember the first one we bought was in 1975 for eldest DS's first bed - they were considered very newfangled in those days. Bedmaking is so much easier these days. However, I do keep blankets in reserve to top up on very cold nights.

No way would I have sheets and blankets again. We stopped at a farmhouse in France one December that had beds made up this way and I relived my childhood [strike]horror[/strike] memories. They are freezing cold to get into. I was getting up in the middle of the night to re-make them after the sheet or blanket came off due to our tossing and turning.

I asked for my original duvet as a birthday pressie when I was about 14 as I hated sheets and blankets so much. I find I haven't changed my view of them.

When I was a kid we had ex army blankets which were black and itchy as anything, but we'd fold the sheets over the top and make the bed with proper hospital corners, it was great, I loved the feel of the heaviness when you got into bed. We also had really feathe eiderdowns and blankets with a satiny strip at the top, I'd love that today but OH is not a person who likes his blankets on and tends to spend most of the night with no covers. Does anyone remember the candlewick bed covers too?
