yippee i just found out my hubby is a closet os'er

it just goes to show... after nearly 14 years of marriage i am still finding out things about my hubby...lol...

we were watching the coalhouse re-visited on bbc2w about 3 familes that went back to 1927 and living the coalhouse cottages etc..

anyway there was a part where they showed the parents tucking in the children into bed... will all the blankets.... and i was thinking it, and hubby said it.... 'how cosey they looked with all those blankets'

he then said he would love to go back and just have flannelette sheets and loads of thick blankets again like he used to have when he was young, and not a duvet....:j

oh i thought great, by the weekend the duvet wil be gone and there will be os sheets and blankets.

i get old welsh bankets in quite regualar which i normally put straight into the local auction, plus i have got an old welsh quilt, which i must admit does need repair work, but it is sooooo pretty..

so i think he is a closet os'er ...lol.... like some of the old ways of life...

does anyone else use sheets and blankets, not a duvet?

We use sheets and a bedspread. And a throw for when it gets chilly. There's a duvet tucked away somewhere, for the winters, but we haven't used it this last one.

I'm really not keen on duvets TBH...

Love my sheets and blankets so cosy ,nothing nicer on a cold night getting into bed under crisps sheets and woolen blankets takes me back to my childhood ,my granddaughter loves to stay over as the spare bed is made up of vintage bed clothes even down to an old fashioned feather quilt.

Why is having blankets OS and not duvet's. I have flanelette sheets, one microfibre blanket, one bedspread and then the duvet and then the hot water bottle, not forgetting my bed socks. :D I also have winter pj's on as well. :p

I find too many blankets make it too heavy. Duvet's are so warm and light.

2 blankets AND 2 duvets (one summerweight, one winterweight) AND a bedspread! - but I do often throw off the winterweight duvet part way through the night

    - well, I sleep on my own and dont like nightwear!

if i remember i can remember having a duvet for the first time late 70's early 80's ...so i think in terms of os they are fairly new on the scene...

when i was small ( and my hubby) we had sheets and then a few wool blankets, and those blankets that are like the holey baby blankets ...lol...

and maybe a homemade thin style quilt... like the welsh one i have...or a patchwork one

as my hubby said last night he misses the weight of the blankets which makes him feel all couchy and cosey... i know exactly what he means...

i also suffer from cold feet ...lol.. and if my feet are cold i can not sleep...so i must look like a right sex goddess with my socks on, and hubby's p'js:rolleyes:

I only have a summerweight duvet on my bed but I rarely feel the cold .I have a light knitted blanket that I made a couple of years ago that I sometime put over my feet if it gets really cold .I had my house doubly insulated last year and have cavity wall insulation plus a 8 ins layer in my roof space so my house rarely gets cold .I suffer with osteo arthritis and have to keep warm to keep my joints mobile.because of the insulation my house is at a steady 20 degrees almost throughout the winter months.
I wouldn't go back to all the faffing around with blankets ect again though.far too much washing and drying in comparison to duvets
