Hi SDW love your house - you are really busy for next year. The Welsh one looks great too - I am seriously thinking of going down this route in the near future. The only thing going for my house is the lovely town of Royal Tunbridge Wells which is really central for touring and of course its only 50 mins. by train to London. I don't have a great view but have a lovely secluded terraced garden, with two ponds and a waterfall inbetween. We bought our bungalow within walking distance of the local station for my husband's commute to London.
Balmaiden - you should be OK with your house in Cornwall - everybody wants to go there (me included) - Good luck to all.member # 12 of Skaters Club

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Unfortunately we are bit like Droopsnout - we leave either place empty for months when we are at the other, but then again apart from about 40 minutes to York and half an our to Meadowhall, and an hour to the East Coast, what else can we offer from Donny! The other problem is where on else where would we put all the clothes. :rotfl:

Thanks SDW. Interesting to know how others get on with house swapping. Your home sounds lovely as well Merrywidow.
As I said in my previous post we did let our house in the summer 2007 ( so last year actually, not two summers ago as I said. I have a job to remember the days of the week now that we are retired, let alone the year! ) We put it into the hands of a holiday cottage company, it came on to their books in Sept 2006 and was fully booked by Xmas. As mentioned, everyone wants to come to Cornwall. I could add at this point "try living here," low wages, few jobs, expensive housing, lousy public transport etc, but, I won't as I know a walk on my beloved cliffs makes me realise how very fortunate I am to live where i do.
I just hadn't thought about house swapping as an option definately worth thinking about. I remember watching a programme about it a year or two ago and seems to me people could swap their homes no problem no matter where they lived.
We have actually booked our next SKI-ing trip, 3 weeks in Goa in February but I feel house swapping maybe the way forward in these difficult times.Away with the fairies.... Back soon0 -
House swapping can even work if you don't live in a particularly picturesque area, as there are always expats wanting to visit family in their native land, so obviously they want to be close to where their relatives are.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

You don't have to empty ALL the wardrobes! One and a couple of drawers should do for a couple on holiday!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Well, I don't know if it qualifies, but I have been spending again. GD has just replaced her single bed with a double one so I bought her the duvet covers and sheets that she'd seen in Argos. And have bought her the matching curtains from Argos now she's measured up her bedroom window. As they're things for GD, does this qualify as 'SKI-ing'?
My new chairs are being delivered on Friday and my new curtains will be hung by stepson-in-law when they come down on Saturday. Today was a red-letter-day - the first time DH has had a proper shower since he was taken ill the middle of October, so I was pleased I had taken the bull by the horns and got the shower done. We managed to put his leg into a bin-bag and did it that way. He feels wonderful, like a human being again, as he says!
He still has no news of when he's to go back to have the knee-joint reconstructed - saw the consultant this Monday and has to see him again next Monday. It all depends on the level of toxins in his blood, which have to fall to an 'acceptable level'.
Must stop spending now - been a bit extravagant, what with getting the goose-down duvet from John Lewis last week! Nothing else to spend on for a while. Next thing - plan a little holiday for somewhere in the spring, once we're over all this. DH can't go out at present, except for being taken to hospital by ambulance, which he says is the high point of his week! <VBG>Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I don't think it matters who you're spending it on. We SKI-ers are just not leaving vast amounts behind!
Glad your DH is improving. Know how he feels about that shower - and I haven't had to stay un-abluted for that long either!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
You can buy some waterproof things especially to use in the shower or bath on limbs that that cannot be exposed to water. I have ordered on myself today after I slipped on the ice yesterday and have an inpact fracture of the wrist.
