  • nooo get something with a sunscreen in it, otherwise you will burn like crazy, which will ruin your holiday (I was once delirious from sunburn, no fun at all) and poses serious health risks.

Ambre Solaire do a clear spray which is excellent, you do not have to rub it in, just spray it on and it evaporates and it doesnt feel like you have any sun cream on at all, but it works - trust me, i sprayed it haphazardly on the back of my legs in cornwall last year and had incredibly burnt bits on a few patches I had missed!!

Sometimes it is sold as 'sport' or 'mens' but it all seems to be the same stuff - often its on bogof in superdrug ang I have bought it cheap from home bargains in the past. (aha I see Mrs E has already recommended it above)

Another vote for Ambre Solaire Clear.

By any chance do the women who told your wife to use carrot oil have skin like a well worn Chesterfield sofa? :rotfl:

I agree  - I'd advise not to go down this route unless you want to look like David Dickenson and his mrs. Or even get skin cancer - I know someone who used sunbeds and oils and she now has a four inch scar where they cut the tumour out of her back. She can't go on any sunshine holidays now..........unless she wears lots of clothes, factor 60, a big hat and sits in the shade all day - no fun!

Re the Piz Buin all day stuff - it's a good idea, but maybe see if you can try a sample first. I found it heavy and it didn't suit my skin at all - I came out in rashes and lumps.

Boots now do their own brand for the once application a day - I think it lasts for 6 hours, but it is just as good as the Piz Buin one - they also do a larger size tube.

when we have been abroad we have bought low spf lotions that have contained carrot oil when we have been near the end of the holiday and our skin has adjusted

we tend to do as others have posted - started on spf 15 then down to 8 sometimes a 4 then possibly a 2 on arms and legs for last day - yes bad i know

last year i bought a tan accelerator cream by elemis which you applied every day for 2 weeks before to boost your production of melanin - i wasnt sure if it worked or not tbh

this year i have bought some tan tablets that are supposed to do the same thing - increase your natural production of melanin which is what helps you tan - will report back on them !!
