I dont think it offers protection at all. I have used carrot oil and it gives you a lovely rich tan.I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.0

You wont get any protection from the carrot oil, but you will get a dark tan, after the sunburn has healed up lol.
Any oil, baby oil, vegtable oil, even cooking oil will give you a great tan, but you will suffer in the long run. Many years ago, before there was the wake up call about skin cancer, I did use only vegtable oil mixed with vinegar,or baby oil, I did burn badly, but did get a good tan, but I didnt know any better at the time.
Now, I always use a sun factor, I start off fairly high, then come down slightly over the days when I am on hols, and I still get a good tan.
SP15, is what I start with, but I apply it every 30 mins for the first 2 hours, then every hour, then i go down 12, then 8 or 10, and I never burn.0 -
My sister buys coconut oil , i`d never heard of that either!0

We use Piz Buin 1 day long cream. It's fantastic stuff, 1 application lasts all day long so a tube lasts ages - it's usually on BOGOF at Boots.
We usually use SPF30, for the first few days, then drop down to SPF15 then drop down to SPF8.
We do use an Olive Oil with carrot in sun oil for an hour or so a day in the last few days of our holiday to really boost our tans but you must be really careful as if you leave it any longer you WILL burn to a crisp.
EDITED: Just saw you're going to Greece - we bought our olive oil and carrot sun oil in greece.0 -
has it got a screen factor?
Piz Buin does yeah, SPF30, SPF15 and SPF8 not sure if it goes higher but we tend to use the SPF15 and SPF8 mostly, SPF30's good if you've got really sensitive skin and it really does last all day long. Great cuz I hate having greasy hands from lotions.
We were originally put off by the price of it but it's worth every penny and costs less in the long run as you only put it on once. I can't recommend the stuff enough, I'd never use anything else now.
The only time we do re-apply is if we've been swimming - you don't have to but I get hubby to put it on the places I know I burn to be on the safe side.

Keep an eye out as they have it on BOGOF from time to time.0 -
Thanks for that Haydrew, am going away to lanzagrotty in may, and kenya in october, so will be wanting something that fairly high, can get a tan, but not spend every half hour applying it.0
