Does selling on ebay and not disclosing it, constitute fraud ? ( Not selling loads by any means). Is it being self employed ? Has anybody any first hand experience of this?

If you buy to sell, you're a business and should register with the tax and NI people. If you sell your old junk, it doesn't count.Bulletproof0

I'm registered with the tax people but not sure of benefits people... !0

Think you'll be o.k if it's your own personal stuff.
If you buy to sell, best to declare. I've been told up to £88 is acceptable as part of the permitted work rules on IB. I don't know what the situation is with other benefits. But if you're making a significant income from it, why would you need benefits in the first place?'We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. Unfortunately, even if you only sell a couple of quid's worth of stuff, if the benefits people find out, they could look at is as an income, because it is money coming in and has not been declared.
I know of people that have had to submit their bank accounts (for housing benefits) and they have been questioned about the Paypal transactions.
Not sure what the outcome was though!!0 -
This is an interesting question as I sell my old bits on ebay and some months have made a fair bit if selling a few dvd`s or my PS2 and I rarely pay my paypal money in to the bank account but wondered how you would declare it when its such random amounts, eg one month could earn £80 and another month could earn 80p, its very confusing!

I claim Housing benefit and when first applied had to supply months of bank statements which they trawl through, and yes i've sold loads of items that either i dont use or the kids have lost interest with, rangeing from games to clothes etc etc, they did question Paypal payments received but just informed them that it was junk from the household, and they were quite satisfied with that0

When I gave my bank statements I had just sold loads of baby stuff had a couple of payments in for fair amounts. They questioned them and DH went to them with the details of what I had sold, they were not bothered about them as they are not regular income. HTH0

Conor I am so entitled to IB, with permitted work. I am very lucky if I make £10 a month so erm think I might need to keep on claiming Barcode ! LOL0
