I recently gave up work as I was moving to a new area. I claim as a single parent as I have beeb on my own with my daughter since before she was born. Anyway, as I no longer work and am now claiming Income Support, I rec'd a letter from Inland Revenue to tell me that I would be entitled to a 4 week Working Tax Credit Run on. The letter states:
Thank you for telling us that you now work less than sixteen hours a week. This means that you are no longer entitled to Working Tax Credit. We have already sent you a new aware notice showing that your Working Tax Credit stopped from the date your hours reduced.
New rules mean that we can now pay Working Tax Credit for four weeks ater the date your hours reduced. The amount you are entitled to for those four weeks is shown below.
Working Tax Credit due for the period 23/02/2008 to 22/03/2008 £262.64
Amount we have used to reduce a tax credits overpayment £0.00
Amount Payable direct to you. Payment due on 31/03/2008 £262.64
If you have already claimed, or are recieving:
Yours
I originally thought that this meant the amount would be paid into my bank account, however I have since discovered that the amount is paid my Bank Giro. When I discovered that the amount was not in my bank account, I called Tax Credit helpline to be told that no date could be given for when the money would be issued, could be a couple of days, weeks or months :S
I have been told that there is a delay, I just dont understand why I have rec'd a letter to tell me that the payment is due on 31/03 when it wont be.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks
Lisa

It is a system generated letter (as most of them are).
There is a backlog at the moment causing delays to everyone.
If you wait up to 2 weeks from the date shown on the letter and if it is not yet received you should call up to report it missing. The adviser may try to fob you off but insist that you get the serial number for the giro and a TC241 (missing giro form). If they are not willing then tell them you want to complain - this will get them to give you the number and the missing giro form - it shouldnt be a hassle but there is always the threat of complaint in case you get an arsey adviser.0 -
HI
I had this as well, and I called after 3 weeks to find my giro, and literally as I was on the phone the postman put it through my letterbox!
I sort of wish they hadn't written, as my head had spent it on a hundred thinggs before it arrived!! All a nice little bonus though.......... 0 -
Today, the giros due 12 march are being sent out, so thats almost 3wks behind and means you should have yours by 20th april.0

Thank you all for taking the time to reply.
Jay1Jay, thanks for that, I just dont want to be sitting waiting on the postie everyday waiting on the money arriving, at least if its gonna be this month then I am happy
TBH I am not to bothered about it now as I will have other money to get me by, its just that I had it all spent in my head and wanting to do some much needed clothes shopping, oh well the old rag's will have to last me till end of the month :rotfl:
Thanks again!0 -
hi,i too received that letter saying it was due on 25th feb.....i still havnt got any giro.Ive been ringing up twice a week to be told theres no time scale, yesterday was the same it had not been sent yet blah blah........I rang up today however and someone tells me there was a problem with my address (ive claimed for years from this address).Anyhow after confirming on the phone that they have the right address ill probably have to wait another 5 weeks for my money. The whole systems a JOKE!!!!0

The problem with your address could have been what is called "RLS" (Returned Letter Signal) - TCO have issued you with some sort of letter, or possibly the GIRO but it has been sent back. It may have been sent to wrong address or Royal Mail have returned it for some reason.
When this happens it causes "a problem" where you need to confirm your address again before they send you anything else out.0 -
I am gonna just wait the 3 weeks that has been advised here and if not rec'd by the end of April then I will start pestering with calls but I fear that won't do any good, if there is a back log then I just need to accept that. Just gives me more time to spend the money in my head, shame that I already owe £40 of it out to my mother....oops!
It is a pain but at the end of the day, I wasnt aware about this run-on at all until I got the letter through the post.
Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to help out!0 -
I also recieved a letter stating that i would recieve a payment on the 2nd march, i was told that the payment had been authorised on the 21st february however to this day im still waiting.
On the 21st march i reported the item missing and was sent a form to fill in i filled this is and sent it off on the 31st march, i sent it next day delivery at a cost of £4.30 and they recieved it by 1pm the following day however it didnt show they recieved it until 2nd april. I was told by many advisors that they try to issue missing payments out within 4 working days however its now the 14th april and still nothing.
Rang them and still they say no payment has been issued. if you ask me its a joke, im on holiday on the 21st april but without this payment looks like i wont be going..the advisor was helpful on this occasion and advised me that she will pass the details onto a manager at preston and ask them to get in touch.
I still believe to this day that the original GIRO was never sent and they are now checking to see wether it was cashed, im aware that when a payment is sent they update there system but if this payment was to go missing it wouldnt have been able to have been cashed due to the large amount, a post office with any sense would have asked for ID.
Been told by many advisors that the payment should have been here well before now but still noone can tell me why the payment hasnt been sent they cant tell me if the first one was sent and knowing my luck ill end up getting the old giro before the new one meaning i wont be able to cash it anyway.?0 -
they say nothing was sent out in the first place because of this"problem"..its been nearly 2 weeks now since i confirmed my address. How long does it normally take to issue a giro??subsoniccoyote wrote: »The problem with your address could have been what is called "RLS" (Returned Letter Signal) - TCO have issued you with some sort of letter, or possibly the GIRO but it has been sent back.
