Thanks again re TrojanHunter ... found quite a few, so thank goodness they got dealt with! Cheers, Cat0 -
Drive arrived and no problem fitting etc, so many thanks again for advice and confirmation about which drive to get. Got an ASPI problem [haven't formatted yet, so wierd errors keep popping up!]. First DVD movie created as smooth as anything. Understanding that now system's ASPI is faulty, Nero 7's isn't, but cannot for the life of me find Nero's options to change so the burning software uses Nero'd aspi. DVD drive shows as RAM drive, I place disk in, it looks at it briefly, then shows up as a CD drive. After hunting around, seems it must be an aspi problem? Can't copy a new wnaspi32.dll to system32 ... it won't let me. HP themselves are saying it could be the disks or that drive is faulty ... don't believe it's the second, as 1st movie happened fine and when trawled around the net about this problem, a lot are saying it's the aspi. If only I could find Nero options! Only thing that concerned me regarding delivery was that it didn't arrive well-packaged from Play.com ... a jiffy around it and a box, with space to move around a bit much if roughly handled. Yet it worked fine at the start. So surely it's either an unstable XP being awkward [I've had to turn on sound again, that just stopped for no reason whatsoever, all kinds of things!]. But can't format until have backed up movies! XP disks arrived today, so a repair would be worth trying?
Just checked the BIOS, enabled secondary slave, but it comes up as registering it as a CD-Drive. Couldn't enable primary slave. Same error happening despite enabling this. Errors also are that a disk will be in the RAM drive [E] but a message comes up saying E not accessible, insert disk, stuff like that. Can't recall right now the physical jumper setting on drive, but first movie burned fine, and without BIOS 2nd slave enabled, so not sure what to do!
