Basically if you're not going HD, stick with CRT as the image quality on LCD/Plasma on standard definition broadcasts is at best a "make do". The image quality on CRTs far surpasses LCD and Plasma on standard definition broadcast.

Would totally agree with this. You will probably get an "old fashioned" CRT set for a very attractive price.
My old (and heavy !) JVC gives a far better picture (on Freeview & SD sat) that any flat screen that I have seen. That is why it is almost impossible to get a TV showroom to show you an SD picture on a flat screen TV - they wouldn't sell !

Just click on "New Thread" near the top of the board page.

Your budget may have a large effect on what's suggested.

As I understand it, CRTs do not have freeview/digital in the tv, and as my region will be switched off analogue in around 15 months I do not see as CRT can be a viable option! I know you can use digi boxes, but I have 2 VCRs attached that only one can work through the digi box,( I have 3 scarts on the tv that has gone kaput, and use all 3,(freeview box,VCR x 2), so even if my tv can be economically repaired, I will still need to be looking for an alternative prior to the switch over, as well as upgrading to a dvd recorder/PRV,(Humax?).

Although I'd highly recommend Panasonic as well.

Plasmas tend to handle SD (sky/freeview/dvd) sources better than LCDs, if its more monitor use and gaming your after go LCD.

Do not fall in to marketing hype of 1080p on a 37" screen etc. Let your eyes decide, have a look at the Panny range i.e TH42PX70 (or now 80) which is a very good panel for the money and you will not be disappointed.

Just seen that you have a £1200 budget? use the rest to get a decent AV setup with speakers, or if you are fixated on 1080p have a look at the TH-42PZ80B or even the TH-46PZ80B instead.
