Help Dividing a Bedroom?! ideas needed

My 2 DDs share a bedroom ...
they are 14 and 10 .. my 14yr old informed me that she wasnt happy because she doesnt have her own "space!" ...
So it got me thinking of ways i could divide their room to make is sorta private or to have their own personal space! ...

Ive looked at the room dividers and they are soooooooooo expensive! so was wondering if anyone else had done this or if anyone has any ideas on an inexpensive effective way to solve this issue!

Any advice or tips would be great

Many thanks Kirsty

I've just had a stud wall, with windows at the top for light, built to seperate dd and ds2. Now have 2 rooms that are 6ft wide by 12ft long. Kids love it!!

My daughter had a similar problem and she managed to use two wardrobes facing in opposite directions do divide the room, they were placed side by side .. The room was longer than wider and each child had their own wardrobe facing into their part of the room and on the back of each wardrobe they put posters that they liked so dividing the room in two with a gap at the end for one child to access their end of the room...... but you really need a light coming in to both parts of the room...

    Difficult to describe though :rotfl:

Piratess please come back and let us know if it works out .... In my grandkids room it was even more important to have privacy as one was ds and one dd.. my daughter even bought a heavy voile curtain and suspended it from a short rail attached to the ceiling so that dd could pull it across when she wanted complete privacy.. it worked well for a few years....

Piratess - it was 2k took 4 days only issue was it was it was a bit messy. There are 2 windows at the top of the wall.

Forgot to add - had a second doorway installed so that the rooms are their own

Tell they they are each going to get their own separate room, but they have to decide between them which one gets to stay the new the foster home. :naughty:

What about a curtain which goes all the way across? Not as sturdy as a wall oviously but a lot cheaper (and less messy!)

we did this several years ago. we were lucky as we had 2 windows. my husband built the stud wall and he found it fairly easy..
he simply built the frame and used plaster board and insulating fibre.
he also included an adjoining door for access into the frame.
and when we came to sell up several years later it was actually included as a seperate bedroom so increased the house value too.
    good luck

Not 100% sure on this one but i remember reading somewhere that if a room only has 1 window then it can not be split into 2 rooms, something to do with fire escapes and regulations.
