500 London Hoxton Hotel rooms for a quid!

What's it about?
An upmarket hotel in Hoxton, London is offering rooms for £1 a night for stays between 1 May to 31 July 2008. The price even includes breakfast!
It does this as a regular publicity event, there are 500 rooms at the special rate, and you can book them online the sale kicks off at...
Rooms available:
12pm Friday 11 April.
It sells out within minutes...
if you're not online then, you won't get one.

At that price surely the rooms can't be that good?
See for yourself. Check out the hotel's photo gallery (if that's not working due to traffic, visit the Trip Advisor review). This is a mid to higher level little hotel; which you'd probably expect to pay £50 - £80 a night for.
This £1 promotion is exactly that; a marketing promotion. Hence if you can grab it, do!
Why the hurry if they're not available yet?
The hotel have run this £1 offer four times before and the rooms went like proverbial hotcakes (though many of those were MoneySavers as each time its available, it goes in the weekly email).
It's a bit of a lottery who gets them, as you'll see from reports below. If you are looking to stay in London between February and April, then get online at 12pm sharp (or better still from about 15 mins before)
What if I can't get a £1 room?
Once the £1 rooms are sold out for a particular night the next cheapest discounted price is £29, still not a particularly bad price for a room in London.

Yawn. You need more than good luck to get these rooms. It's a ruise to get you to want a room, and then buy a more expensive one instead.
Thanks for the pointer though.0 -

Well I didn't get a £1 room the first time, but I was delighted with £29 and £59.
A £44 average was a VERY good price for a decent London hotel.
I guess if you feel that way, you should un subscribe.
No-one HAS to buy a more expensive room.0 -

The £1 room is their marketing to sell the pricier rooms and a £1 room, in the highly unlikely event you are able to get one, should be viewed as a bonus. Hoxton aren't making money on the rooms they let for £1 a night, it's the extra nights people stay and the interest it drums up in their hotel. Obviously people are not obliged to buy something they do not want, but my point is noone should be expecting a £1 room.
You have more chance of getting a £19 Travelodge room than one of these £1 rooms. I stayed in Liverpool Street Travelodge a few years back for a couple of nights at £10 each nights with a £3 return National Express Coach Ticket booked well in advance, with no mad booking land rush. So Hoxton is not the only option and you do not need to wait for their sparse £1 room offers, the Travelodge one is more consistent and you can book in advance without hassle, although I am sure the Hoxton is a nicer place to stay etc.0 -
