I agree totally, in my experience there is nothing so sure to make you feel fed up and unfulfilled than being unproductive, and being busy and having some cash coming in both help life have some direction and meaning!0

TBh I dont know why Asperger's is being talked about if the OP did not feel inclined to birng it up in their original post. If they wanted a talk about any such condition then I'm sure they would have asked for one.
Getting back to the OP - you should plit your goals into long term aims and then work out short term goals to get there. So if you're not qualified for sometihng, you need to put yourself into a position where you're more likely to gain qualifications. Normally this would be either government funded, or wok funded. You're discounting one by not being in work, so you should find a job first of all that will give you opportunities to go onto training funded by your employer. Someone like the council or other local authority would be ideal really.matched betting: £879.63

Hi all...problems with computer meant I have been unable to read/reply until now.
I have an appointment with a psychologist next week, also due to see disability officer at Job Centre. Hopefully, they will be able to give me some guidance.
Apologies for the fact that I mistakenly posted on 2 sites and got a bit confused about not mentioning Asperger's earlier.
Just to clarify a little...Yes, I qualified as a teacher, but did no practice in a school. I did a term and a half in an FE college, although the PGCE was for secondary age. The place thta offerd me a job admitted that I was not qualified and told me that they couldn't afford anyoone better than me. They were the training provider I had been with and the treatment I had there left me certain that I didn't want to work there.
Aspergers meant that I got extremely confused in the 'interview' - a chat with a senior staff member. I didn't even realise I was being offered the job! I got very stressed when I found out I had accepted the job and was 'rocking' for days.
Thanks to thos of you that wrote supportive comments - I have followed through the links and joined a group.
I would like to point out that I am genuinely looking for work. I am not lazy or taking advantage of the system as some of you suggest. Nioone in their right mind would willingly stay on benefits. My problem is that I can't afford to live on benefits. I NEED to work, but with Aspergers it is really difficult. Voluntary work is not an option - firstly, I need to be payed; secondly, the Job Centre forced me to leave my previous voluntary work for a charity, as I was 'not available for work' - even though I signed an agreement that I would leave immediately I had a job.
Please, read up on Asperger's before you condemn us all as being shiftless layabouts. I am 'high-functioning', but quite severely Autistic. I have exceptionally low self-esteem at times. I find the world a confusing, illogical place, I struggle to interact socially. Please try and understand people with Aspergers. Don't dismiss us.0 -

my good friend is CURRENTLY studying with the Open university for her Maths degree - so she does NOT yet have her degree and has been an Aduly Literacy and Numeracy Tutor for 4 years now - she is taking Adult education teaching qualifications at the same time- so I don't believe that the original poster is NOT qualified to teach adult literacy
if the OP is suffering from mental helath problems or stress related to his Aspergers and his situation could he not also try and claim DLA to eas his financial situation?
I agree that some form of Voluntary work would stand him in good stead for a future job - but to be honest you have to WANT to get a job to be successful.
My husband has just been made redundant unexpectedly - he had only been in his post for 2 years after extensive retraining to obtain a job - he was invalided out of the Fire Service after 18 years and then ahd to seek other employment- he has worked hard to re-train and work with community groups and voluntary groups and in the 4 weeks he has been unempolyed has managed to secure 3 interviews- two of which he has had but he didn't get the job and the 3rd he is due to attend next week - he is DETERMINED to get work - he has been turned down for JSA as he has a small pension of £500 per month - and according to the DWP he can keep me and our 2 disabled kids on that !! thank goodness for CTC
BUT we are not downhearted- he WILL get a job - you just have to let people know that you REALLY want one0
