Do you have any books/clothes/gadgets/dvds etc you could stick on amazon or ebay or anything? Make it a little challenge to yourself to raise say £300 to cover the dentists bills within 30 days.
Good plan - although I find the problem with Ebay is finding the time to list and then go down the post office when I'm sending! I shall definitely try this though to try and avoid sticking it on the CC. I've got two weeks left until I go, so let's see how I get on!
And yes - I agree tobedebtfree - I have a great debt mentor!! :T xx
30 days until you start getting charged interest on things on the credit card though, so even if it has to go on the card, if you clear it within that time doesn't really matter anyway. I go down to the post office on my lunch break, as I like a wander anyway. When I'm lucky I even get a mystery shop for the post office so I'm paid to send the stuff anyway! Amazon is a lot quicker for listing things than ebay, and you don't get charged anything until they sell, for games/dvds/books I think it's fantastic. Random fiction books don't hold their value very well, but dvds are pretty good.

TOBEDEBTFREE BY DEC 2012 CC1:[STRIKE]14012[/STRIKE] 13784/ TOTAL DEBT is £75119.36. As at Mar09-- Now is £68433 £2 SAVERS No.125 & 4 sealed tins No.633 to clear OD:dance: PAD to clear cc & loan debt. PAD's from-26 Feb & Mar/£226.01-Apr/58.84-May/65.73-Jun/111.97/Jul-2.59
With six days to go until the dentist I've ebayed, and had a small amount of tax back. It's enough to cover any emergency work I think, and it will certainly limit the amount that will go on the Credit Card, so I'm very happy about that. It seems a shame to fall off the Credit card wagon when I've been on it for over a year now, so I'm trying to avoid that altogether if possible! I had to order some new cards (as I cut up all the old ones last year) and even having them in the house is temptation enough, it's horrible.
So I realised the other day that I've been on this site a year now!! In that time, I've cleared just over 6k of debt. It's good but I have so much more to do. If I want to get sub 30k this year I'm really going to have to pull my socks up. It's difficult, especially since I have a lot of college work at the moment and it's stressing me out, but I'll do my best to keep on track.
I'm focusing on getting rid of the Egg card - the PAD challenge is keeping me on top of that one. I've been paying off £2.34 a day plus extra when I can afford it. After I pay off my Egg card (by August hopefully) it will be onto the Lloyds TSB monster. With only a slightly lower interest rate, but a huge debt of just under 3.5k, that one will be my focus for most of 2010 I reckon!!
Anyway - one thing at a time - I am healthy (if stressed!), driving lessons are going well, so I can't complain too much.
So - I went to the dentist yesterday, and it was fine! Much less scary than I expected, and I've basically been quite lucky with my teeth.
I need a filling, and a scale and polish. But the bill for the lot is only going to be £250.
I know that sounds like a lot to some people, but seeing as I hadn't been for soooo many years, I thought it was going to be a heck of a lot worse. So I'm cheery! :j
I've been carrying on with my Egg card daily payments as my Debt Mentor recommended....and I've been making extra payments too when I can. The current card balance is just over £350, so I'm pleased to see some progress there!
Now - should I tackle my Lloyds TSB card after that, (big balance of over 3.5k) or try to clear one of my overdrafts? (£1250 each, I'm worried in case the bank decides to withdraw the facility). Answers on the back of a postcard please!
What are the rates of interest Lloyds TSB card and the overdrafts? Do you have any particular reason to think they'll withdraw it? I'd be tempted to keep at the cards first, as they are likely to be higher. They'd be mad to withdraw an overdraft as potentially that encourages you to default on monies owed to them as you wouldn't have it to pay them. At worst I think they'd tell you they want you on a payment plan to pay it back, but still a bit unlikley I'd hope. Sorry I've been absent all week, nasty stomach flu has had me in bed.
That must have been quite a filling for £250! Mine charges £48 and I get a free scale and polish twice a year (okay admitedly I pay him £11 a month in dental insurance!)

No - I always stay within it. I guess I'm just panicking a bit because I've seen other people on here have their's withdrawn. I know that the Lloyds TSB card needs tackling next, it's just such a big beast of a balance I'm almost scared to start!!

£250 was for checkup, x-rays, cleaning and filling. She's a specialist with dental phobics, so I really didn't mind - I thought that it would be about a grand with all the work I imagined I needed doing, so it was a relief to hear that my teeth are doing ok to be honest! xx
My brother's girlfriend is training to be a dentist, will have to tell her to specalise in dental phobics if thats what they charge! Still at least it was a lot less than you were expecting.
When you finish Egg, give yourself a bit of a treat, a meal out or a day trip somewhere or a new dress or something to celebrate. It's a big achievement and you've done great to clear it. Then start making the payments a day to LTSB instead, and promise yourself a bigger treat at the end of that (weekend away for example), think how much better off you'll be when it's gone! I find personal bribery works a treat, I even bribe myself one square of dairy milk each time I go to the gym!

I have been away from this site for about 18 months...it has been both a good and bad time.
Good = finished degree, now looking for a 'proper' job, which should hopefully bring in some more cash each month
Bad = way back in debt. What a !!!!!!.
Basically, I got into a bit of a spiral with the bank, where I kept going over my overdraft limit, and they kept charging me for it...again and again. I am easily back to where I started...in fact I would say I am worse off, because although the loans are down, the CCs are up...and everyone knows they have a higher rate of interest.
I am back to try and sort this out once and for all. I can't do this alone...and the most frugal and fun time I had was the year I was posting on here, with the help and support of you lovely people. Definitely time to come back into the fold.
