just where do they get that meat from

Coz I'm beggared if it bears any resemblance to bits of a cow.

Pub chains like Wetherspoon source their meat from South America, probably Zebu as above. I know a lot of local pubs down this way source their meat from local suppliers... I guess you have to ask the landlord

the mail article tells me all I need to know.

Yep..... it was a pub chain..."Two For One Group" or something. The Old Rectory in Stockport.

But it was just a general moan at the quality of meat proffered as steaks in most pubs that I've eaten in.

It neither looks or tastes like flesh.

When I'm paying £4-£5 for a meal I don't expect much. But had I been eating alone this steak would have cost me about £12 !

I don't understand, I mean, can anyone find meat that actually Does* resemble a cow?? What were you expecting, white and black skin still attached?

What I'm saying is that the meat doesn't actually look like meat. It looks and cuts sort of semi-processed. It resembles a well cooked burger more than fresh meat.

I hate to think what the chicken my be like in these places :rotfl:

Isn't that just a very cheap cut of steak?

I don't know much about catering but I guess its typical pre-frozen pub catering standard microwave reheated food for the masses. Just because you have paid £12 doesn't mean it is any better. You are just going to have to go a bit more by recommendation.
