Got iphone today-question about porting number

Well, I finally gave in today and bought myself an iphone-wee hay!!

Now, I need to set it up in the next day or so but have some questions I hope some clever people may know the answers to. Here goes:

I am currently with 3. If I port my number over from them do my contacts in my address book arrive at the iphone too, or do I need to write tehm all down on paper then re-enter them.

I have a lot of texts that I would like to keep. Is there any way of doing this? I have tried connecting my phone to my computer and saved lots of my pictures and video, but couldnt see a way to copy texts anywhere. Again, if I port my 3 number to use with my iphone, do the texts stay as well?

Was going to advise you to unlock the iphone and not register the O2 contract but if you are with 3 this will not work

oh, I am far too chicken to try unlocking it. £280 is far too much to pay for a brick!!

The only thing that will transfer over is your number.

If your current phone can be linked to your PC and synchronised with Outlook, you can sync your contacts, Calenders and Notes and then you can Sync your IPhone via ITunes with Outlook and get your info back.

Texts unfortunately will not Sync over.

With some of the newer unlocking programs, it is very easy to unbrick an Updated Unlocked iphone that has been updated via ITunes.

Just update to V1.4 and Unlock. No need to update in the future as V1.4 is the last version before V2 comes available in June which gives access to 3rd party applications, that people with Unlocked Iphones are using now anyway, via Installer.
