Dont they ask to see other types of evidence.
Bank statements, qualification certificates, wage slips of partner (if applicable)?

Hi Jessie
Great to know sense has prevailed in your case but i feel i must stress that an awful lot of people will be classed as able to work in Oct' '08 and maybe it is a good thing getting people ready for the new rules. Having browsed through the criteria to the new Employment and Support Allowance it's probably the biggest shake up of the welfare/benefits system in my lifetime.
It seems that depression will almost definitely not be classed as a reason for being incapable to work which i'm sure will be one hell of a burden for peope with mental health problems. How the hell do you get a person to travel x miles to a Jobcentre when they are unable to get dressed, cook or communicate with others etc. and as always it mostly affects our most socially deprived areas of the UK where people don't have a voice that is heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -

Hi
im guessing you didnt understand my question (or maybe it was just my name??)
I was told by someone that they ask to see your education qualifications and other stuff since this interview is all about helping people back into work.

Hi Allen I know what you mean as my mother suffered for years with severe depression and it was hard enough to get her out of the bed every day and she had the crazy habit of going in the bathroom and sitting on the loo all day and we would have to break the door down to get her out,she was mostly in a catatonic state in between.Hi Jessie

Thinking back to 70s-80s my family never claimed any type of benefit she was just looked after by the family but had to be sectioned a few times over the years,my enduring memory is of visiting her in our local asylum and being pulled and dragged by the inmates it was awful she had several courses of ect which did nothing to help it just made her worse
I guess the only way around it is to tell the jcp people to come to the house and see for themselves.

Thankfully this practice is no longer used and depression is better understood as an illness.
God knows how people suffered in those places I shudder to think.

Sorry to hear about the traumatic experiences you went through.
It seems so sad that M.P's of a great but once proud nation classes our own who are ill as a statistic. IMO the conservatives put them there and "NEW" labour want to put ill people back into the Jobseekers society. This new system is going to make the needy more poorer because due to ill health and you can't fulfill your jobseekers agreement, people will be sanctioned financially because a medical practitioner who has never met them before, in 20 minutes, will be qualified enough to say you are capable of work. I have said in other posts who would even read an application, never mind employ, someone who has been ill for 10 years with depression and through the goalposts being moved are classed as able to work. The majority of people with mental health illness would much rather not be ill, work and be earning a decent wage than having to sit at home through ill health with little money.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
I know what you mean I did comment on this when I wrote to my MP but she assured me that it would all be dealt with sensitively.!! yeah right0
