what do they look for wfi

Hi after being retired on ill health grounds on 5/2/08 and finally getting a payment from IB into my bank I have just got a letter asking me to attend for a work focused interview.
Can anyone tell me what they are looking for? is it to make sure I am ill or what.
What kind of questions do they ask etc.
I know they are trying to cut the sickness numbers but this is silly I only just got my first payment and do they think my company just retired me for fun?

The WFI looks at what you can do at work. It is not disputing that you cannot do your previous role, but explores future options for you.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Oh thanks ,at the moment I cannot do any role as I am in too much pain I am dreading my taxi ride to the job center tomorrow as it is very painful.
I am due to start a new treatment once the new financial year starts when my local health authority will have the budget to pay for it (£10,000pa) do I tell them this or not mention it as I am not on it yet.

I would mention it, as it shows that you are working towards getting better, and therefore getting back into work.

At this stage the interview is really a formality. When you are getting better, the interviews will help you to consider future options (and potential benefit entitlements when you return to work).

    Best of luck x

  • Ok thats good to know ,I hope I get some good from it as my condition is progressive but they have had good results with some people lets hope I am one of them.

  • Oops I forgot to ask ,it doesn't say if I need to bring anything with me but should I bring my dla entitlement letter with me or will they know I am getting high rate mobility low rate care.

They may have looked it up, they may not - but if you just tell them that you are on DLA and the rates they won't ask for proof (if they want it they have access to look it up)

You don't need to take anything with you

No you do not need to take your entitlement letter with (unless you want to of course) as the WFI is to do with the fact that you are claiming Incapacity Benefit.
  • Thanks everyone, will let everyone know how it goes,
  • Hi just to let everyone know I went to my wfi today and the upshot is I don't.
have to have any more interviews as it was apparent that I was not capable of any work at the moment, and it cost me £10 in taxi fares as well.
Just have to wait for the official letter to confirm.
Thanks to everyone who answered my queries.

I'm glad it went ok for you, and it's a worry off your mind now.

Good luck with your treatment x
