How to discourage cats?

Thankyou for this thread, because my witts are at an end with cats peeing and crapping in my garden, even my wifes cat, which I think invited all the others to come and pee and crap along with her, even although she's neutured. I have several patches of dead grass on my lawn over cat wee and I've tried all summer to regrow grass on them, but it won't grow. I've tried everything in the book from snakes to orange peel and they're still crapping everywhere. You'll probably not believe this but my wifes cat doesn't like me and I can prove it, she was crouched up one day ready to crap on my nicely sowed grass seed and I gave the window a wrap to move her, she didn't move, so I went out and shusshed her off the grass, she ran past me into the house and up the stairs. "Thank goodness", I said, but that wasn't the end of it. Latter that day I went up into our bedroom and smelt something funny........she crapped behind my bed. Cats hold grudges, trust me!0

lol! Oh yes they do...my mum and dad's cat hates me, she used to wait for me in the night on the landing. She would stand outside my bedroom door and wait in the dark for me, so she could bite and scratch my feet and legs! When I'd shout my mum, she would run away like nothing had happened
Perhaps it is your cat encourgaing other cats, as they would have seen her doing it. What are they doing it in? Is it just grass? Gravel? Soil? Maybe if it's just one type, getting rid of that from your garden might stop them.0 -

i would suggest purchasing some expensive cat beds and toys - when i buy these for my cats they always completely ignore them, so i am sure that if you had some dotted around the garden that your neighbourhood cats would just sit in your neighbours garden playing with leaves and laying on mud!0

We've been having trouble with our own cat using the lawn as a toilet. I wouldn't mind, but she uses the whole lawn which isn't very big and it means that my pre-schooler can't play in the garden as much. I'd be much happier if she used the flowerbeds, to be honest.
So far, we've tried:
Chilli powder - worked for a while but then cat became 'immune'
Mothballs - didn't work at all
Curry powder. Cat 'concentrated' on the parts where the curry powder was strongest.
Pepper dust - complete waste of time.
We are currently using a hosepipe, which is curled menacingly on the lawn - we move it every couple of days or so.....it seems to be working at the moment.
We haven't tried lion or tiger poo yet, but that's our next step. She also likes citrus, and bottles of water don't seem to faze her at all so they are a complete no-no.
I think it's just a case of trial and error - and once cats have been using somewhere for a while it becomes habit for them, so this is an additional problem.
Hope you find something that sorts it....
