Difference - chlorine is there to treat the water, fluoride is added to "treat the people" without their express consent. The fact that you feel that fluoridated water has given you no "problems" , as an individual, is neither here nor there.

Targeted dental care and improved diet is the way to deal with dental caries. If you want/need extra fluoride then its already available in a multitude of forms.

The rest of us don't need or want to be treated alongside you. Even for those whose diet/dental hygiene leaves much to be desired, as we all have different doses of fluoride exposure via what we eat and drink etc slapping more of it in the drinking water as a "one dose fits all" is a ridiculous proposal.

Without wanting to get into a big debate - the pros and cons are available for all to see - personally, I think the water companies should be responsible for delivering clean, safe, uncontaminated drinking water, and not a vehicle for mass medication.

Edit: Oops - got so worked up I forgot to answer the original question. From what I've read, most filters will NOT remove flouride. But contact your filter manufacturer.

To remove flouride, you can use Reverse Osmosis Filtration, Activated Alumina Defluoridation Filter and Distillation Filtration, whatever the hell they are!

Absolutely agree - in Manchester I don't tend to drink tap water BUT I drink a lot of tea. If Fluoride was harmful to your insides or detrimental to your health in some other way then how can you account for the millions of people in this country who have been ingesting tap water since birth?
I suppose if you live in a high sodium water area then it would be well worth buying a decent filtration device - if you have a condition which calls for a low sodium diet.

Fluorine and chlorine are both elements from the same Group in the Periodic Table. They behave in similar ways and perform the same chemical reactions a lot of the time.

Let's face it, if your grasp of chemistry was correct, we'd gas ourselves whenever we put salt (sodium chloride) and vinegar (acetic acid) on our hot chips (heat source).

If I've got your argument correctly, you'd happily live in an area where there was a high natural level of fluoride ions but would move out of an area with a low level of artificially introduced fluoride ions. Even though they are chemically the same type of ions.

And you're all happy to follow the word of a former doctor who's been discredited across the world, in numerous studies and whose main funders and followers in America are right wing fundamentalist Christians, some of whom think the HPV vaccine is a disguised Ebola virus designed let foreigners take over America.

Every time I see a 'debate' about fluoride, I see the same old clap trap. Really this isn't a 'debate' at all. Whichever 'believer' can type the fastest and make the rationals give up seems to 'win'.
