any advice someone can give me in what type of company can do this? is there a company that offers guarantees etc? what type of rendering should i go for (if there is differences of types). i dont really know what i am on about when it comes to building so would appreciate any advice

A plasterer or general builder would under take this work.

As regards types of rendering there are indeed various different types, the most common being called plain faced rendering.which is a sand and cement coating that is sponged up to a mild stipple effect, which can be painted with masonary paint once completed or simply left. other types could be pebble dashing wet or dry dash, tyrolean, monocuse etc the list goes on.

A guarantee is a bit like any other work undetaken by a tradesman it should be of a good standard, and last a number of years.A good rendering job should last at least 30 years even on a exposed gable end.

costs will obiously vary as to what you choose and to other factors such as heights and scaffoling required etc.

yep - (just now admittedly) though cant find one.

would i be better using a national company such as

    http://www.wallshield.com/index.php

    http://www.spraycote.co.uk/welcome.htm

    http://www.durakote.co.uk/?gclid=CPXB9M_dtJICFQxtMAodux2svw

    (first 3 off of google)

and if so is there anyway i can check their reputation?

Me personally, i would keep trying the plasterers. I think they will be cheaper.

I have to agree i think the plasterers would be a tad cheaper also.
As regards coming out to look most one man bands will prob be busy [if they are any good]and be booked up in the near future now the better weather is coming, as in my own case we are booked up over the summer as i try and do all my external plastering projects over the summer, but id keep trying to be fair. the benefit of using one of these companies is that with the sheer size of the outfit they may be able to undertake it reasonably soon and plus they give a written guarantee, but i think you will be paying a premimum for it

Hi, I have the same problem. We moved into our house 2 years ago, that had been recently rendered. Over the last 6 months, more and more bits of the rendering are falling off. I don't really have the money to pay to have it re-done, especially if it could possibly come off again. I don't know whether to contact the previous owners and ask if they have a guarantee, or if that's too cheeky, ot whether to try and get as much off as possible and paint the brick, or just accept that I'll have to pay. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks x x

To be honest, i dont think you will get any joy emma, as 2 yrs is quite a long time(although it shouldn't have blown within this time).I only guarantee my work for 1 yr and i think most tradesmen do the same(some dont even do that). Why not take off whats blown and get 3 plasterers to come round and give you a quote.
