If you're making a stew or casserole throw in a handful of pearl barley and a handful of oatmeal - they both bulk it out a bit and the oatmeal thickens too - you might find you don;t need any cornflour or anything else to thicken! Also, both are cheap as chips!

Does this work if you are using a slow cooker??? i never seem to be able to thicken up the sauce from the meat

    Worked in mine yesterday! :D

Would this work on cats too?

No - but you will find oatmeal in the same area on the supermarket shelf though.

I've used porridge (just the ordinary Value stuff) and it was fine.

is it a good idea to add vinegar (dont get me wrong - good on chips, cleaning and in the washing machine) but in pets urinary tracts - its very acidic and i am not sure it is good for them (fleas or not)!!!!

I know that it's recommended to put a little cider vinegar in chickens' drinking water. and a peeled clove of garlic!

Bicarb is cheap to buy - you can buy it in bulk (and use it for cleaning too!)

Any good places I can get bicarb in bulk  ? Also wanted to use it with olive oil as a gentle facial exfoliator :T
