"Sneaky ways to save time?" LOL. Better not have a similar title or users will not be pleased by stumbling on the wrong thread. I'll go start one now, hoping it takes off> :)
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Two years ago I bought 21 pairs of identical black socks, reasoning being that the sock monster would take a while to get through them and I'd still have at least 1 matching pair. Well 28 missing socks later I've had to buy some more.

However the local supermarket has foiled me by only selling mixed packs of grey and black.

Does anyone how how to catch a sock monster? and where to buy cheap black cotton socks? (blessed or unblessed)

i believe this sock monster lives with the underwear gnomes, all come out when you are sleeping and nick your reg grundies and socks.

I thought about this last night! Once I have done my content list for what's in the freezer and the cupboard. I shall type it up on my computer and save and then put those lists inside my cupboard door and make any changes there. Every now and then I will then update my computer list and having the list on the computer will save time in the future.

Quasar, great idea. did you set up the new thread? Would be great if you could put the link on this thread.

    Inventory of Lightbulbs and Batteries

I've posted this on a different thread before, however, was reminded of it this morning when needing one.

I sat and inventoried all our lightbulb requirements (we need about 20 - 25 different types of bulbs) so that I knew exactly what we'd run out of when using the last one up, so could replace just that one. Before, we'd just go to B&Q and stock pile on massive amounts of bulbs, and end up with massive amounts of rarely used ones.

I also did the same with batteries - it stops the kids from just taking them willy nilly as well. When there's special offers on, I can see which ones we need, and which ones we've got plenty of. Also, can see how frequently ones are used up!

    I'm toooooo sad!!!

If you're using a lot of batteries, especially for kids things. It's worth investing in a battery charger and rechargables.

Have got them too ... for things like the Wii remotes etc. which goes through loads and loads of batteries!
  • One of the problems with having your freezer full of whoopsied meat is that when you defrost a joint/portion etc - cook it - eat some of it - freeze the rest - you can then end up with more to refreeze, taking up more space than the original meat did in the first place.

    I call it 'magic meat'.

It could be better to pre cook and then freeze but a combination of both would be my preferred choice.

Don't talk to me about the sock monster! I managed to lose a sock that I had just knit, before I even got half-way through the second one of the pair!

(It turned up next morning on the bed - how could it have been there the previous evening and all through the night without being noticed? Maybe the ranting and raving I did at the sock monster scared it into bringing it back.)

(I'll be knitting the next pair two-at-a-time. Just waiting for my set of circular needles to arrive before I start.)

I've done that for both my husband and I (that sounded more regal than it was meant to).

If your feet are small enough for kids' socks (think 14-yr-old boys) I recomend back to school packs of black basic socks - v cheap and VAT free.

This morning I decided to empty some bins upstairs containing paper, tissues cottom wool etc... I burnt it in the fire grate. Needs must with the bin men not comming out because of the snow for 2 wks. It did throw off some heat into the house so double job.

I have found a new tip that I thought I would share... use cool blocks under dishes of left over food to help it cool down quicker to put in fridge/freezer.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
