It is a difficult time of year - winter and the cold, people staying in more and so using more gas and electric.I think we all have to be watchful of turning things OFF. Listening to the moans of "it's cold". Providing/buying things like slipper boots, leg warmers, more fleeces and body warmers.
We had a power cut at work yesterday for 1/2 hour and everyone was asked to go get their coats to keep warm wile we waited. Well I had a jacket and gloves but wished I also had a scarf that day. Today the scarf came too! thankfully no power cut but I did ware the scarf in the car to and back so lesson well learnt.
I think with the kettle being filled with to much water by other people I might sneek in the kitchen and fill a hotwater bottle if just sitting in this cold weather like now and am at the computer. DD is also happy when I hand her one wile she is at home studying (student). If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

For those of you who have families who won't co-operate with switching electrical appliances off, could you creep out to where the main meter is and switch the whole darned lot off for half an hour, preferably in the middle of tea time/when their favourite TV programme is on or just when they're catching up with Facebook?
Obviously don't leave the electricity off for long enough for food in your freezer to start defrosting, but if you do this occasionally it might get the message across about what life would be like if you couldn't afford to pay the bills and how their lives would be greatly inconvenienced if the electricity was cut off.
I imagine that after a couple of occasions when the "If you won't switch it off individually I'll take the decision for everybody" is implemented, things might start to change.Said I would do if they refused to listen when I asked them to do something

Hello!
I did put this idea on the pet board but it doesn't seem to have had many views, so I thought I would put it on here instead as it might be helpful to someone.
I went to the pound shop a couple of days ago and bought a high-vis, reflective dog coat for each of my dogs. Then I went home and lined the coats with some old fleece blanket that was destined to be used as a pet blanket. They're not perfect but they do offer some protection from the cold. For those of you who don't have access to a pound shop, you could try draping some blanket over your dog (it needs to be wider at the neck end and taper off at the bum end), pinning it at the front and wrapping a strip of blanket around the dog's middle and tying it over the back. This is not perfect either especially for bouncy dogs, but for older dogs who are feeling this cold weather, it is better than nothing!
I have had a rummage through my ragbag and retrieved a pair of torn waterproof trousers, so am going to see if I can fashion some kind of waterproof coats for the dogs using the pound shop coat as a template. It's worth a try. Dog coats are expensive if bought from the pet shop!
Happy money-saving.Aspire not to have more but to be more.

A good thought for the pet-owners amongst us:D
:T
i also wonder what can be done about their little tootsies (aka paws)?
(visions of fingerless gloves for dogs - so that their claws are still "on show" to help them grip in the ice).0 -

How not to save money:
We have no heating in the kitchen - didn't think it necessary with the heat from cooking. The pipes were frozen behind the washing machine. This morning they unfroze with water flowing freely onto the kitchen floor. I rang Homeserve, with whom I have a contract but they, of course, don't deal with frozen pipes, so I got a plumber - £75 - which I don't think is bad when you think it's Sunday, he was here within half an hour and he replaced a piece of pipe rather than bandaging it.Clutter free wannabee 2021 /52 bags to cs. /2021 'stuff' out of the placeYOU CANNOT BE ALL THE GOOD THAT THE WORLD NEEDS, BUT THE WORLD NEEDS ALL THE GOOD YOU CAN BEtaken from Shelbizleee on YouTube - her copyright0
