Sneaky ways to save the pennies

I always brush my teeth straight after eating my evening meal. For some unknown reason it stops me having a glass of wine or snacking on whatever is available. My philosophy is that if I can't be bothered to brush my teeth again then I can't have been that hungry/thirsty so can easily do without. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.
Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.

The advice from dentists - and from our very own Toothsmith, a dentist user in here - is that you should wait about 30 minutes after a meal before brushing your teeth to give the enamel time to recover, otherwise you are more likely to damage it.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

I bought myself a jug thermos so each time I boil the kettle I top up the jug. I have heard that each time a kettle is boiled it can cost anything from 50 something pence to 80 something pence.0

We do this too - well, I do, dh occasionally does (while rolling his eyes!). We just use out big thermos flask & fill the kettle to the top first thing in the morning, then put it into the flask & use that until it runs out. If it's just me at home during the day, then the kettle only normally gets boiled twice a day - first thing, and then tea time.0

Stop topping the kettle up and just boil what you need?0 -

I thnk it's a good idea to top up a flask though, because as they say 'look after the pennies, and the pounds will take care of themselves'0 -

Thanks - by the time I've cleared away, washed up etc etc it's at least half an hour (usually more) after dinner before I make it upstairs to brush my teeth. I was more meaning that I don't do it just before bed as I've noticed that I snack and drink more during the evening otherwise. I started doing it when I worked really long hours and wanted to relax in the evening so I'd get myself completely ready for bed (pjs on, make up off, teeth brushed) early on so I could just get into bed whenever I wanted/needed to. Completely pointless really but it made me feel better! There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.

i've been in the habit of tearing off a couple of sheets of kitchen roll to put in the bottom of my compost caddy to sop up all those manky juices which accumulate down there until the caddy is full enough for the contents to be thrown on the compost heap. Over the years I must have used up a fair number of kitchen rolls adopting this practice so in future I'm going to use torn up newspaper which gets recycled anyway and is equally absorbent.0
