Over the months i have been reading various threads on the os board, i have picked up so many hints and tips.:T My fav being.
When making sandwiches only butter one slice of bread. No one notices when the sandwich is made up.
Making up powered milk, and adding it to 2l carton about 50/50, again no one has noticed, and i have even bake with the milk mix.
Plan my meals for two weeks based on these headings, i found meal planning very difficult to master. This just seem to make it click in.
pasta meal
savoury rice meal
fish dish
red meat dish
egg dish
soup and sandwich with dessert evening
roast dinner
curry night
pastry pie/cornish pastie

Thanks for this, seems a great way to look at things. I do seem to struggle and often end up repeating meals too frequently and then OH gets board and starts heading for the takeaway menus!:beer:Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

I always slice thinly some lemons when they are cheap and open freeze then put into a plastic bag for using in drinks .Saves space when the freezer is a bit full, as ice cubes en mass do take up a bit of space.
I also reuse tinfoil after I have used it once wrapped around the sliced bread that I freeze in portions of four slices,(all I need for a couple of days)
I fold it in four and store it to use again when I use my remoska for heating up stuff. It saves on the washing up as well.
I only wash up once a day as well, usually after dinner in the evening.
never compromise on washing up liquid though its always been Fairy for me as it reaally does last lomger than the cheapy stuff0 -
I use Fairy too! I have found the cheeper liquids are more watered down so you use more.
I store my Fairy in crystal drink decanters on the kitchen window sill. A friend gave me three they were throwing out/taking to the dump.
I have a diffrent colour Fairy in each. It makes my DD laugh as you are ment to put whisky, gin, brandy in them.
It is a cheep colourful decoration and of course you never run out of liquid so no excuses not to wash up!If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -

and you can freeze leftover wine in ice cube trays (then pop then in a box) to add to soup/stews/sangria - BUT I never have any left over :rotfl:
I also buy tinned tomato puree and as I never use the full tin in one go I freeze the rest in icecube trays (then box or bag up when frozen) to add to soups/stews etcDon't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

My husband too. We have several ice trays but apparently the cubes are "too small and not the same".
We go through at least one bag a week, OH will fill a pint glass full with ice every time he has squash or water. :mad:Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Something I discovered on the internet is that you can substitute egg with cornflour. One tablespoon of cornflour = one egg. I made some fish cakes and used cornflour mixed with water and made it up to be the consistency of beaten eggs and used it to coat and breadcrumb the fishcakes instead of egg. It actually worked better than egg as the fish cakes were crispier. I also managed to make a cake, it wasn't bad but not as good as egg in my opinion.0

Has gone to play on her own little world for a bit..... but its ok the voices in her head came too so she's not alone0 -
Kind of on a similar note to a few posters on last page, our local supermarket lets you take the brocolli stalks (that most people cut off - they even have a hacksaw for this purpose) "for the rabbit" for free. And they sometimes have other veggies out back in the same way. So, I have occasionally bagged up a large bag of stalks to use - in the kitchen. The insides are good (peel off the skin and tough layer inside it) and use in stirfries or grated into spag bols etc. And at worst, they are an added extra for the stockpot.
Only ever do this when I am shopping alone though, as while OH understands many of my shopping habits, this is one he would not be happy about (what rabbit? We don't have a rabbit! I've never eaten those bits in my life!!!), so I keep it for solo trips.GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897
