  • I love spending time on the web reading up, must save me thousands on Dvds/magazines/books/going out boozing etc.
It is my guilty pleasure...a hot cup of tea and a couple of hours on MSE...heaven. :)

In the evening when I feel a bit chilly but don't want to put the heating on I make a cup of tea to feel a bit warmer. Then I warm up a microwaveable pillow for 2 minutes and put on my shoulders and not soon afterwards I feel quite warm.

I charge up my electrical toothbrush and mobile phone during the night when electricity is cheaper.

That's it for now cannot think of any more money saving tips.

I was just about to pour the vinegar down the sink from an empty jar of pickles before washing out the jar to put in the recycling when I decided to slice up two onions and put them in the jar. I added two small dried chillis from the plant I have, a twist of black pepper and a spoon of brown sugar and voila a new jar of pickles.

Becky tho you may be on something like Economy 7 or whatever they call it nowadays, It actually only takes an hr or so to charge most mobiles and to leave them charging overnight wastes a lot of money , electricity and energy,.. Green sites will tell you not to do this and it can also save money... feel how hot a charger is when you have done it overnight...It like leaving things on standby they still use power..

Can anyone come up with another use for body lotion? I have quite a bit from old Christmas presents etc.

I am answering my own question here but surely you could use it to polish up shoes? and handbags. Maybe leather seating. You would have to check a patch first though.

I have a quite a small fridge but eat loads of sliced beetroot in vinegar and I have always bought the smallest jar in the supermarket because of the space issue. Last time I went food shopping I thought to myself why not buying the biggest jar I could find with beetroot because it's much cheaper and then keep filling up the small jar in the fridge. This will save me quite a lot of money in a year.

I love the vinegar left over from pickles, particularly onions. Tastes fabulous on chips...it always get added to an empty vinegar bottle in our house.

still wasted money and energy tho.. People who do this prob also leave other gadgets on standby etc.. Mind you I am admittedly the sort to pick up a penny in the street...:p

Does annoy me that it's so dark in the flat year round that you have to have a light on most of the time.. had to say I was shocked to find out that we seem to be using 30p in a morning of leccy. a washing machine load used to cost about 50p or so. I think they have put the cost of the meter units up or something..I am now not even cooking things that need the oven and sitting bored or reading rather than turn on the tv as we are in a bit of a dire strait at the mo..
