It's Green Alkanet not Comfrey. Didn't anyone read my post?

Yes, but you are not God...so you might be wrong.

Clearly I did as I posted pictures and a link about it.

Anyway the OP will have a good look at both plants and work out what it is.......

Thanks again everyone. Think I'll read up as much as I can find on Comfrey and Green Alkanet and try and deduce what it is. I might even wait until it flowers to be sure.

Whatever it is I've got it in abundance. I've been debating whether or not to dig up my entire "lawn" and start from scratch as it's in that much of a state. Plus if the roots are as bad as it sounds then at least this has helped me make my decision!

    Do let us know!

I must admit I'm now veering toward alkanet, though mine doesn't have roots as thick as that, perhaps because I pull it up regularly & the major roots are well down. Also, if it was the small 'decorative' comfrey it would be flowering by now. Mine isn't, but that's because I keep hammering it with glyphosate & pulling any small bits I find. However, I found some in a neighbouring garden & it was well out in flower.

just noticed I have one of these in my garden...it grows very BIG!!! about 3 foot...has lovely pinky purple flowers though but its not staying this year....:)looking back at the pictures it's comfrey as it grew like that last year and is small like yours this year...so comfrey it is then...

    Plans for 2009

Like most weeds in the lawn, regular cutting, and raking at the end of the season, weeds and feed should be sufficient to keep the blighters from growing.
    I had a plan..........its here somewhere.

    And the winner is.....

Green Alkanet! Found one that had little blue flowers on it so the mystery has finally been solved.

    Thanks for your help everyone.
