How flexible are your debts? I am overpaying as much as possible on credit cards til August when they're gone, as the APRs are stupid, then I will be putting money in savings to clear the non-flexible loans... so if it was a credit card on non 0% I'd pay some money off that and pay the minimum around xmas, so that you save on interest for 8-9 months.

I have some money clearing in the bank to pay off my 28.9% storecard on monday, then I am left with a 10.75% loan which finishes (according to snowball calc) in july 08, after that all my debts are 0%. Got one more finishing in july 08 then two in aug 08 and a couple finishing in nov 08. The rest finish in 09

Sounds like the kids are enjoying their home cooking so don't feel guilty about a treat now and again, in the overall picture you are changing their attitudes so that a treat is actually a special thing and not an everyday occurrance:D

With the xmas cash, putting a small amount away regularly will help when it comes around, if you put it in savings you can always get it out if you are really stuck.

They complained that their dad buys them a macds once a fortnight and its too often :rotfl: Trouble is I would buy them one and then a few days later they went to visit him and he would buy them one too! I have stopped it, he can carry on spending like a loon if he wants (some maintenance would be nice grr). I made it sound like we never had homemade meals, we did but often would do quick things like a jar of chilli, bung some mince in it and cook a bit of rice, but now its all done from scratch and they eat smaller portions as they are fuller. I have also cut out the sugary cereal, which has helped. Anyway, I digress!

Last year I was clearing debts and still managed to have the best christmas ever, really relaxed and everyone happy with what they got, so I am tempted to go with the flow, but that seems a little slap dash :o

    Evening all,

Well, 1st trip into town for a week , and the first Saturday after payday, so I spent:
    • Borrowed a book from the library on GYO fruit & veg = £0
    • Went into M&S and topped up my gift card = £30
    • Used Mums bus pass to get into town = £0
    • £2.30 on a coffee (was waiting for hubby, and had free travel ~ see above)
    • £21.99p in Boots £20 phone top up and shampoo for hubby (he doesn't do own brand ) ~ got 230ish ACP's
    • Went to Tesco's and got some bread/sandwich fillings = £7 ish
    • Bought a new pair of jeans from New Look £12
    • Spent £5 on Strawberry and pepper plants
    • Mum took me and hubby out for dinner (I put towards the tip) = £1
    • Bought a couple of magazines (to enter comps) = £1.30
    So: Budgeted = Phone £20 + M&S £30 = £50
    Non budgeted = Coffee £2.30 + Shampoo £1.99 + Tesco's £7 + New Look £12 + Plants £5 + Tip £1 + Magazine £1.30 = £30.59

So, todays school report should read 'must try harder'

Also, decided not to use plastic carrier bags any more - got a funny look in New Look, as I stuffed (paid for) jeans in a hessian bag.
Debts at the start of my journey - about £23,000 lightbulb moment 01.03.2007 (1st payment to CCCS)..Debt Free Date 25.06.2013 Deposit savings £17,000/£30,000
