If paid by BACS direct credit, as most salaries are, it will be credited on the due date 31/03/2008.

    Thanks Nigel.

Do the majority of banks credit on Saturday ?????????

Is there anyway I can get my hands on cash tomorrow.

I only have a basic bank account, cheque book and debit card but no cheque guarantee card.

BACS direct credit is same day transfer of value it will be credited to your account on the day that your employer requests it to be which will be a working day.
Can't help with your second question you won't have access to your salary until Monday 31st.

I bank with Natwest and have just checked online to find that my salary is there already. Woohoo!!

OH banks with (Halifax) Bank of Scotland and their salary (from the same employer) did not appear until overnight on Sunday the last time payday was a Monday. Halifax phonebanking might be able to confirm what time they update credits/debits on your account.

Consequently, it looks unlikely that you will be able to access your salary before Monday.

Your salary has to be in your bank account by midnight on Sunday 30th so that it is available for you to withdraw some/all the funds at 0001Hrs. It will most likely show up on your online statement on Sunday but could possibly be earlier.

In every job I've had salary due on the last working day of the month has always been paid by BACS on the day-or the nearest working day before-certainly never after. AFAIK BACS can only be credited on a working day ie Monday to Friday. I would consider an employer who paid wages late using the weekend as an excuse to be a pretty dodgy company. Likewise if the last working day is a bank holiday Monday the money should be cleared into the bank the Friday before.
I wouldn't consider working for an employer who did anything different.

Correct -most half decent companies should state they pay salaries on x day or in case this falls on a weekend or bank holiday the last working day before. Have you checked your account to see if its there yet?

Monday is a working day - why would it be paid in any earlier?!

If your pay day is the 31st then it will be paid on the 31st, and i would imagine it will be avaliable in the early hours of Monday morning.
