Well, I hope they don't revalue anytime soon - my house was classed as Band B when I bought it in 1999, but will go up to band F if they change.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but if you appeal, can they increase the amount you pay? I wouldn't want that. I live in a converted ground floor flat, one of three 3 bedroomed flats in an old detached house. My flat is the largest (but still only 3 bedrooms) and has access to the garden (which is shared) and is rated E, the first floor flat is a D and the top floor C. My neighbour who lives in a much larger house which hasn't been converted into flats has a G rating. It's pretty confusing.
  • I'm considering paying my council tax in a lump sum instead of monthly. I know i could invest the cash and make some interest but i like the idea of not paying every month and having lower monthly outgoings. What happens if i move house a few months after i pay for the full year ? Is the tax on people or property and can i move it with me ?
  • Hi there, i know with my council tax that they will rebate you to an exact day if thats what you want (i.e if you move to another authority or just move somewhere where someone else is responsible for the atx)

If you move to another house in the same area they will just put your payment to that property and provided that it's in the same band you will not be owe any more or any less.

    Hope this helps

Just checked on the site and all of the houses in my block are paying the same band. My neighbour recently said that they were paying XX amount which was cheaper than ours. Is there anyway I can see what they pay exactly? just to check it out?
  • Thank you Maise. Just went down a band on appeal after finding my house was a band above all neighbors. I would never have checked if it hadn't been for your sharing.

Mike. Just follow the screen. Address and postcode is fine.

    Good luck.
