Looking to buy a new car (ford cougar) and have seen one on ebay so decided to get a vehicle check this came back. Is the plate change section suspicious as one of those plates was apparantly a write off on the same model car

Hi there,
looking at the report it would seem that the car was first registered under T310*** in Mar 99 then written off in the May, the car must have since been repaired then registered under T4*** in 2000. When the cherished plate was removed it was reassigned its old plate again in May 06. As such it would suggest to me the car was written off in May 99 and has had a cherished plate since then which was removed in May06.
Thats what it looks like to me although the information is contradictory, the plate change may be throwing a spanner in the works a bit. Best to ask the seller or contact the RAC to clarify the details, as you paid for the report and it is unclear.
Cheers

For a car to be written off when its 2 months old must have been a fair old shunt. Or fire...!
Anyway rikbar's version sounds right.
Some people do plate transfers to hide stuff like this or register a car to get another owner on to hide the previous...0 -
Personally I'd treat this one as highly suspicious... And certainly do NOT bid without inspecting the vehicle with someone who know's their stuff firstDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
