    Hi guys

Sorry I've not been around this month, things have been so busy. On the good side of it I've not had any time to do any shopping. Spend to date is just over £90. On the down side quite a bit of this has been in M&S :( Anyhow I'm due to do a big Lidl shop so hopefully will manage to keep it still under the £130 budget.

Hope things are going well for you guys, will def try to catch up with the final totals :)
  • I've updated my sig so I've £18 to last until the 30th. Better than in previous months, though we have eaten out loads, as we have a number of birthdays and anniversaries in April. I bought 5 x 1lb mince for £5.99 this week. I will use any surplus we have this week to boost our supplies for May. . Probably just need a bit of fruit and milk, and cereal before the end of the month. Maybe a trip to Lidl tomorrow may be in order:o

where have you managed to get these bargains?? don't be keeping it to yourself now, you have to share!! :p

The 5p tinned curry sauce (sits next to the 26p sweet & sour sauce) and 10p shower gels are Tesco basic products, what I assume are loss leaders, hence bottom shelf dwellers. :D

I've just read a 'special offer' on tinned tomatoes! I quote, "WAS £3.15 NOW £1.57 Half Price Napolina Peeled Plum Tomatoes 4x400g Pack

HOW MUCH???   Making mental note to buy 34 tins of tomatoes @ 20p per tin IF I can still get them anywhere. That'll take care of the remainder of 2008 :D

I may retract my final total for April and head for the tins & pasta aisles one more time before declaring myself finished on this GC :rotfl:

  • Re water for breadmaking? I always thought it had to be "hand hot" - just slightly hot to touch. However that is from a Delia recipe and is for hand-making bread, maybe bread machines are different...?

  • I always use 'tepid' water in my bread maker.

  • Yes it says tepid in my BM book but by the time the other inredients are added it has gone cold! Maybe Im just slow. Anyhow-I put mine in as warm-a bit above tepid-to compensate.

  • I have just finished meal planning for the next few days, I am determined not to spend that last £20, i have been defrosting the milk from the freezer..should really think ahead on this as it takes ages when i want a brew. I have thought about the microwave, but as i bought the milk at reduced price, i thought it might go off quicker..if that makes sense.
Just a quick question. I have thought about making sandwiches ahead of week and freezing them, i wanted to know if anyone does this and also freezes the tomatoes and cucumbers on them. I always add these to sandwiches as non of the family like lettuce much on bread! thats a thought as well ..anyone freeze lettuce with their sandwich?

i make up a stack of sarnies to freeze for ds`s lunchbox this saves me faffing about and he just grabs one in the morning and by lunchtime its defrosted. cheese and meat freeze fine, anything with water in like cucumber and tomatoes lettuce etc these dont freeze at all well. another thing to avoid freezing is mayo as it separates.
i have been doing this for years and it saves me loads of time and it means that i only have to cook 1 big joint of meat, slice and package/freeze and i can get it all over and done with in one sitting rather than worry whether i will have fillings in for sandwiches mid/late month as i only shop once a month. if i were to shop more often i would invariably end up buying 4 slices of prepacked ham from tesco at £1.70ish a shot  and it would work out incredibly expensive.
proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance! :p
