  • Woohoo new thread!! :D

I posted earlier on the March thread, have just done my first April shop this morning. £50.56 in total so will update sig in a minute.

One of my aims for this month is not only about sticking to the budget but also branching out a bit and trying new things, i tend to cook the same old thing all the time and i want to try some different things now before i get swamped with a newborn, DD, housework, washing etc and we end up eating Spag Bol 3 times a week because its easy and quick lol :rotfl:

I want to try making a fish pie, i know OH and DD would love that. I'm ashamed to say i've never cooked fish before :o:o:o i've always been worried about it not being cooked properly etc but i really want to try. Also i've got a packet of tortilla wraps in the freezer from when they were on BOGOF but after they've gone i'm going to try and make my own from MrsMc's recipe. I've been looking at the recipes on the Asda website and theres some really good ones that aren't overly difficult or fussy so perfect for feeding a family.

    Good luck all :)

Have just had a 'shop up' and got some great bargains but I shall update when I've finished later, got a trip to Asda to do yet to restock the WML flour. ;)

Anyone know any good deals on fresh milk at the mo? Was jumping on the Cravendales 2 for £2 last month but is that all done and dusted now?

  • My budget as a newbie for April (25/3 to 25/4) is E420 (E30 for misc cleaning, wash powder, etc) for 2a,2c&2fish. I've split my budget into weeks depeding on our plans so for April it's 120 / 75 / 90 / 105 as we're away for a few nights. I've been really organised and done a full food stock check and planned my meals until we go away.

    Today Spends

FOOD - E73-76 I've stocked up on all my fruits and veg for the next few days and the long life stuff to cover us until we go away. I've over bought my meat and the massive pork and beef joints were both on offer.E16 for both joints, but have cut and frozen for 3roasts,1stew. I also bought sausages and mince to stock the freezer becuase they were on offer. I've also bought a huge bag of carrots as it was a lot cheaper and will peel, chop and freeze them this afternoon. I've got E75 for next week, but am trying to manage on my change from this week so we've got an extra 75E to spend on holiday!
MISC - E19-02 Bought a whopping 8.36kgs of Persil that was on offer at 13-99. loo rolls and my bin bags. Am really pleased with the powder as that will last for 2/3 months.

TOTAL SPEND 92.38 / 420.00euros:jnormal spend would be approx 150E:eek:
    LMB 01/03/08£9001.61 £10/6 6089.70 - 32%paid off!
    Grocery Challenge 25/6 to 24/7 €350 week1 €30-46 / €87-50

  • ok so i think i was a bit optimistic for march keeping it so low again so i am going to put it back to what it used to be or not quite going to go for £300 this month.
is still a cut back to what i had been spending and it is for about 5 weeks.

have got a few things in for April already so a spend of £27.40p and Mr T will be delivering my 1st big shop on Tuesday evening.
    Still Trying :o

Don't know if your PC is the same but someone told me where to find the button... if you hold down ctrl and alt and press the number 4 on the row across the top of the keyboard you should hopefully get it..just to save you having to type Euro every time ;) it used to drive me nuts.... good luck for this month :D

  • Hi all, I have just started on my April budget, so far I have spent £7.93 at Tesco on a few bits to last us until I get my delivery on Mon night, and £15.37 at the butchers. Thought it was quite reasonable, I got a whole chicken, 5 chicken breasts, 2x 500g mince beef, 6 good sausages and 6 large eggs. I am planning on doing a bit of cooking at the weekend as I got my veg box today as well, that will fill the freezer up a bit for meals later in the month. Hope everyone has a good April.

So for my first month I would like to challenge myself to a budget of £250 for the next four weeks.
