Afternoon all
Have caught up with the last few pages but hoping to go back and read more of what i've missed.
I went to Asda on Friday and spent £46.49, took some bits back that i didn't have a receipt for and got the £8 put on a giftcard so i used that to bring it down to £38.49.
It was more than i planned on spending but it did include 2 bottles of wine, small box of chocs (1 bottle for OH and the other bottle and chocs as a thank you present for the huge amount of baby stuff my uncle's GF gave me) Oh and a pack of 4 chocolate muffins (these were for jellybean, nothing to do with me
) so i dont think it was too bad really?
Anyway, OH is away Mon-Thurs next week so it'll be a cheap week, DD and I are quite satisfied with a mainly veggie diet and lots of pasta etc so the meat i've got in the freezer is safe for a whilePlanning on making a huge pan of chickpea curry/stew stuff and i'll have that with rice for a few meals plus some to freeze and DD has lots of little portions of various things in the freezer ready to just heat up.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend

The problem is that she thinks she's being unrealistic because there are so many women that earn more than us in the office that have had 6 months off and have come straight back to work full time "because they have to". Having spoken to one of them the other day I found out she pays nearly £1400 a month in nursery bills for her 2 children which, to be honest, is more than I get paid! So basically what we've determined is that some of these people aren't willing to make the sacrifices in order to have quality time with their family rather than quality possessions.
Please try not to be too harsh or judgemental of the other girls. I speak from experience here. I was/am a working mum who sent both sprogs off to the nursery and it cost me my whole salary to do this. I did not do it because I was not prepared to make sacrifices, some mornings it broke my heart and I drove to work crying (that's a harder sacrifice than possessions). I sincerely believed it would be too risky to give up my job and rely solely on my OH's income, what if he lost his job? what would we do? It's scarey!
Anyway, to cut a long story short, OH is now a SAHD, I work. The kids are now at secondary school, very outgoing and well balanced and have not suffered. With hindsight we could have managed on his salary, but when he needed to quit if I had not been working he could not have done so and I could have been minus my OH - so, for us, the right decision.

See sig for the disaster that is! I managed to use 70p of moc's in Mr T's but I've counted it as spent anyway. Hopefully nothing else needed until payday on 22nd. (replied to this once and it didn't post so apologies if I'm repeating myself).
FFM - I apologise if it sounded harsh, I didn't mean it to be. I know that every situation is different and I suppose I had a specific person in mind. I'm just fed up of being called boring/stingy/tight because I go shopping with a list that has prices against it and we try and make things go further. In fairness we don't have kids yet so I guess I should keep my mouth shut. I guess all I was trying to say is that if it was a straight choice between new car/foreign holiday/material goods or being careful, having peace of mind that we weren't running the gauntlet with the credit card company then I know which I would prefer.
As said previously, this isn't a place for politics so I apologiseJonathan Douglas born 20th January 2009 - 9lb 4oz

MrsMc - you know how to keep me busy
Ok, here is a basic Krautsalad recipe.
500g Weiskraut (White Cabbage), Saladsauce with Oil (recipe follows), and 1 tblsp Cumin seeds
1. Slice the white cabbage very fine and steam until its nearly done.
2. Mix it with the Salad sauce and the cumin seeds.
Salad sauce with Oil (I have recipes for others too)
2 tblsp Vinegar or Lemon Juice, 3 tblsp Veg oil, salt, 1 tblesp chopped herbs.
Mix all the ingredients and voila.
Some people like to use Speck instead of oil. Cut the speck into small cubes and fry. Toss it into your salad.
You can add to your Krautsalat whatever you like. Also, I am originally from eastern Germany, we do make some recipes slightly different....

Okay another £10.89 spent including DH's birthday cake which should have been £4.98 but got reduced to £3.49 because the box was damaged. Yes I know I could have made my own but I haven't had chance this week!
We've had chinese tonight as DH decided he was going to have his klast takeaway before starting a diet tomorrow. £16.10 spent there but DH paid although I'll still include it.
Okay better go and update my sig.

Mrs M- Petersilie is parsley.
Pastinake is parsnip. You maybe have Petersilienwurzel (Wurzelpetersilie) seeds. They are closely related to the parsnip. Some shops in Germany offer both under the same name.

Thanks Egon...
The krautsalat is my all time fave.. I can quite happily have just a bowl of that for my dinner...the thought of going back to the UK and not being able to get it is not good
... im amazed the cabbage is steamed as its so crunchy.... think i might have to have a go at it this week :T ... and if needs be i will add a bit of sugar as the one i buy is quite sweet nomnomnom
Yep -looking on the back of the packet of seeds i do have the 1 in your 1st link  ...... have just looked on google and it seems soups n stew n mash are what folks do with them...but they reckon they are quite woody so take lots of cooking.... so i will have a go at growing some anyway.. they should come in for winter.... I will get onto the parsnips when my mum sends my seeds... i love them
thanks for your help...AGAIN....
