we live in an ex MOD house and our gas supplier is Calor. Apparently we can't go with another supplier because it's not mains gas, it comes into the MOD site. We've been living there a year and paying £40 a month for our gas. we've just had a letter through from them to say theat our payments are going up to £101 a month! we only have our heating on for 2 hours in the morning and 3 in the evening, we have an electric cooker.... what are we doing wrong? and is it correct that we can't change suppliers? it's all very confusing to me
can anyone help? thanks in advance!

Hi, I've just seen your message after posting mine. I'm trying to get to the bottom of this. Feeling much as the same as you were. Did you manage to get your Calor cost down? Can you contribute anything to my thread above?0 -
If you cant change to another supply, then I would tell them that you want to go onto 3 monthly bills, Gas DD @ £101 each month is just stupid. I deal with customers who setup gas DD on a daily basis and the most I have ever seen was £120 each month for gas, but they lived in a house which had 11 rooms and a swimming pool which was gas heated.
Have you checked with National Grid to see if you cant switch supply? or even the MOD who run the base, I have delt with about 3 people in the past who have moved to an MOD house, but they have been free to change supply.0 -
I might be wrong, but I suspect the uncle_feather has experienced the same mis-understanding regarding DD payments that many others similarly do.
I suspect the revised payments include not only the estimated cost of what is being consumed now, but also includes an element of paying back a debt built up by underpaying, compared to actual consumption, in previous months."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Hi there...
Yeah the £101 does include previous payments, £70 of which is what we're apparently using per month - they said this is low to average for 2 people! Not great really and they have been less than helpful when trying to sort things out! Will check with the MOD and the National Grid, thanks for that. Will let you guys know if i get anywhere! Thanks for your help!0
