Calor LPG: what's their rate per litre?
Options
Hi.
I've been in a new house that has a Calor LPG tank for a year now and have been horrified by the cost of heating this house. They're charging me 31.15p per litre. Now, one neighbour claims he's been getting his for less than this house for years but he won't tell me what he's getting it at. Another neighbour says not to worry because since January 2008 Calor has become regulated and it must charge all customers in the same area the same amount per litre.
Another neighbour, horrified by the price her oil has shot up to & thinking of changing to another system, rang Calor this week to ask what their rates are and after telling them where she lives they told her it would be a maximum of 36.65p per litre for her first year and a max of 39.65 in her second year. So she asked what they are charging customers in this area now per litre and the person said 40.65p!
It's all very confusing. I've had a fairly good look at the Calor website and they don't seem to make their rates public anywhere there.
Can we pool some information about this outfit?
Are they trying to keep customers by offering them all different rates, although they all live in the same area?
Are they allowed to do this?
How can we keep tabs on Calor? Is there a Calor users' group anywhere on the net?
And importantly for me, is my rate of 31.15p per litre good or bad, compared to what others are paying for Calor gas?
All help much appreciated.
I don't like the sound of this outfit. They sound like a law unto themselves.

Unless there is some kind of price regulation in force, I guess they can charge what they like i.e. whatever a buyer is prepared to pay per litre."Now to trolling as a concept. .... 31.15p per litre is not bad 1 Litre LPG = ~7.15Kwh 31.15p/7.15Kwh = 4.35p Kwh similar to natural gas prices ....Oil 5573 Kwh - Elec 2100 Kwh - Water 24 M³ 3 Bed Detached,2 adults NO-KIDS'Don't live life by the perforations !'- Never been in debt -West Cornwall0

Well, this is an eye-opener if 31.15p per litre of LPG is cheap. Admittedly this is a large 4-bed house and when we came to fit extra insulation a month ago we found that the ceilings had been very very poorly insulated previously, so maybe, fingers crossed, next winter it won't take so much to heat the place. We'll see.
But if anybody is getting a better deal than 31.15p per litre from Calor I would certainly like to hear about it. I would still like to know if they are charging all customers in the same area the same rate, or whether individual bargaining is going on - as apparently it has been.

That's over 50% more than I currently pay"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Well, I just gave an idea - I pay less for gas (SP 2011 NSC FIXED):j
I guess if you have no choice it's not bad .......?

Wow! 31.15 is a bargain. I pay 41.x here in SE Cornwall. Mind you I have refused to go on Calor contracts and I only get top ups when I request, not automatically as they want me to. I topped up last month and hope to eke out unit next spring.
Hopefully we'll hear soon about the de-regulation of selling domestic lpg.0 -

Premier, thanks for your input.
Do you mean that you pay 50% less than the 4.35p Kwh that MyOzone calculated, or 50% less than the 31.15p per litre I'm paying Calor?
By the way everybody, I suppose it ought to be remembered that I pay a "tank-standing charge" of £15.55 per quarter, plus VAT, and of course there's VAT added to the 31.15p per litre as well.

I think he ment the 4.35p - I pay 2.793p with SP 2011 NSC for units over 4572 KWh PA (4.103p first 4572KWh)Oil 5573 Kwh - Elec 2100 Kwh - Water 24 M³ 3 Bed Detached,2 adults NO-KIDS'Don't live life by the perforations !'- Never been in debt -West Cornwall0

According to someone I spoke to at Calor, their gas is 2 1/2 times more expensive than normal gas!0
