RE: Fixed bond with Nationwide

Hi,
Talking about nationwide here and my branch is 45 mins away since moving;

Question 1...when can i put my 3600 in my isa...saturday the 5th ? or only after the 6th?

Question 2. i want to put it in the 6.15% fixed bond. Can turn up with my filled in forms on the 5th put in my 3600, and then after my interest addition, transfer the whole lot,, or do i need to set up the account first then get them to transfer on the day?

Thanks

I'd say there is no short cut avoiding a visit to a branch since you have to apply for a new ISA with Nationwide in person and fill out their application form. The branch staff take your instructions but it seems the ISA department is itself responsible for opening the account and actually transferring the funds or presenting the cheque.

Thus a postal application may be possible if you pickup an application form yourself or maybe these are downloadable from NW's website now?

BTW it's the 6th April - not the 5th - the new tax year starts - so you'd have to make from Monday anyway....

Ive got a couple of Nationwide fixed rate application forms if anybody has a problem aquiring one for 2007/08 Tax Year, PM me and ill chuck one in the post.

I was in a branch earlier, person next to me a non existing customer was offered an appointment on Tuesday re an ISA account opening for tax year 2007/08.

Couple of weeks ago i asked if an appointment was neccesary "if i decide to open a Nationwide ISA for 2008/09 Tax Year" Answer I got was "not if u know what u want " ( Cashier was aware that I was asking as an existing customer.)

Pity Nationwide wont add 0.11% to its Fixed Rates as a special treat for new Tax Year. :cheesy:

Transfer form can be gained by following "Transferring my ISA to Nationwide" on link here, then "how do I ",then use "Cash ISA transfer form request link"

    http://www.nationwide.co.uk/search/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=1424

T+C can be viewed ( last link on above linked page)

ISA "leaflets can now be viewed" on Nationwide website as well again now.

    http://www.nationwide.co.uk/pdf/savings/P5905_ISAs.pdf

There is no "application form" attached to the online "leaflets" so no online "application forms" had been withdrawn. Hi i actually already have the form. I just don't want to make two visits one this weekend to start the ball rolling and then again to put my cheque in and actaully do the transfer....

so can i fill in the form and then just hand it over on the 6th? Will it all be back dated while they process the application?

Im not absolutely clear what u are hoping to do, so my response may not answer the question u are asking.

When i transferred different ISA(s) to Nationwide 6.15% Fixed Rate ISA because they would be arriving at different occasions I made seperate Fixed Rate Account applications.

If i was wanting to do what you appear to be wanting to do then I would make seperate fixed rate applications to keep 2008/09 Tax Year ISA seperate from previous tax year (s) ISA (s)

Nationwide 6.15% Fixed Rate (s) are subject to change at any time so no guarantee that the rate will still be available in April.

If ive misunderstood your question then post back, Milarky has already answered your first question.

Is this referring to money that currently is in a Nationwide instant access ISA ? ( " then after my interest addition, transfer the whole lot " )

Sorry i didn't really give enough info.
I have an isa with Nationwide already. I've already used this years allowance. On the 6th i want to put the 2008 allowance (£3600) in and then transfer it all (including accumulated interest) into the fixed isa at (6.15). If i fill in the form which i have can i turn up on the 6th, put in my cheque, hand over my form and get it transfered? Will they do it all a one go? or will i end up doing another visit?

A question on a side note...can i visit on the 5th (saturday) and give them a post dated cheque for the 6th?

    Thanks for all you help

I was told yes as an existing customer to just turning up with 2008/09 application as it would be just a case of handing it over and leaving it.

Yes you can make such an advance application although in theory Nationwide could change the rate from 5th April.

As previously explained 6.15% rate can change at any time, as you have the application form why dont you just send it off to ISA office in Swindon with instructions to transfer your previous ISA into it. ( ISA office address is either on the transfer form from memory)

If it was me I would have posted instructuctions to transfer existing Nationwide ISA into fixed rate account as soon as i had decided that was what i was going to do and then dealt with 2008/09 ISA on 7th April or made an advance application prior to 7th April if I was certain that was what I wanted.

From experience Nationwide ISA Office has been taking three weeks to deal with ISA transfers (ins), whether that will influence how long the 6.15% rate remains for only Nationwide will know.

Ultimately your plan for 5th April is fine as long as u realise that you are risking missing the 6.15% rate and most Nationwide branches are very busy on a Saturday morning. ( U could make such an advance application any day next week + give your existing ISA transfer instructions)
