Going from pay as you go to contract.
Basically I've been on vodafone pay as you go for ages. Mainly because I don't use my mobile phone that much. A fiver every 3 months is barely anything. Now I've started using it more and think a contract would be a good way to go. I took a look at some of the articles on this site, followed a few of the links and see all this cashback stuff. It looks like you can get a phone and a contract for free.
That to me is too good to be true, there must be a catch. How does all this stuff work? Is it incredibly hard to get the cashback?
Also, on most of the sites I didn't see much about getting just a sim card. I like my phone very much, and would like to keep it, no point in spending money to get another phone.
Can anyone give me a bit more clarity in this matter?

Hi there - just a quick response on the cashback deals.
These were very much in evidence up to 12-15 months back - however they have become progressively more difficult in recent months. Even the 'majors' E2Save and OSPS are vague in their T&C's now and seem to want to put as many hurdles up as possible to stop successful cashback claims.
Don't get me wrong - there are still good offers BUT you need to be very organised to claim them and willing to 'fight' your corner if need be.
I have had some excellent cashback deals - but I haven't touched any for over a year now since the retailers started to play fast and loose with their T&Cs.
As to your current position - it depends how many mins/txts you need.
If you're happy with your phone and want to dip a toe into the cashback offer world - why not take a six month Virgin 300 mins and txts from Carphonewarehouse for £20pcm and get the six months for free with only one cashback claim.

Click all offers to see the 300/300 offer.
If you want lots of mins - 3 will do a deal with 1100 mins for sub £15pcm (if you take Quidco in).0
