tell me about it, i ordered a dvd box set from the us a couple months back, there was only a £4 customs charge, and i had to pay a further £11 to royal mail! (given that they did not even deliver it, and i had to collect it, would love to know what the charge covers!)
the fee is £8,anything over this is customs duty/vat so goes to the taxman
you could have paid the fee online via rm's fee2pay service and got it delivered,as it states on the card0 -
why buy from canada,
A relative worked in Royal Mails importing warehouse in London and he said pretty much every container of post from the USA is put through the customs check but only about 1 container in 10 from Canada gets checked. Possibly due to our commonwealth ties with them?0 -

I have had, more through the ignorance of leaving my bank card at home and not having enough cash on me rather than a "I know my rights" rally though, was never chased up afterwards.

Well, no, not really. Yes, they done me a favour, but had they chosen not to their would be no recourse other than to chase the debt, they would not be entitled to hold onto my items, nothing has changed between my posts other than how you want to interpret them.Bought, not Brought0 -

if 'they' didnt hand the item over would you have physically taken it?
those working witin RM follow the guidelines laid down by RM
FYI RM are red hot on collecting customs charges now and a tracking system has been put in place for this very thing
you will now see a special delivery style bar code/tracking number on charge items0 -
I sell books so know that talking books are not VAT exempt.
Think yourself lucky we got charged £60 in custom charges for bringing own goods back in the country  as a customer was returning them to us.
