Oh dear, you guys are so dogged. I am full of admiration at your persistence, seriously -- no sarcasm! I have only just stumbled on this whole tariff issue when checking my bill to challenge a ridiculous direct debit hike, and being alerted to the higher-tier capping thing on another thread, by DD. I've read the pasted case report and am utterly daunted by the amount of work. I have definitely been overcharged, and if i don't go for a refund, feel I am letting myself be done over, and playing into npwer's hands; no doubt they rely on millions of others reacting the same way. Tomorrow, maybe i can face it...0

Don't be worried about the complexity of the statement of claim. That was prepared as a court document and it is unlikely you will need to go that far down the road. Usual form is you make a claim. npower deny the overcharging and give you a load of gobbledygook excuses eg 'we lowered the tier 2 prices in May to compensate'. You write back and tell 'em you don't accept the gobbledygook and want your money back. They tell you to get lost. Then you threaten them with the Ombudsman. npower make you an offer of a 'goodwill payment'. You decide whether to accept it or not.0 -
Thanks! I'm gathering strength. Will report back if i succeed...0

Good luck Mrs Grey,
I followed the outline of what DD said and got back the best part of £100 in "gesture of goodwill" (which is what they shouldn't have taken off me anyway).
I then gave them the double wammy of leaving them as i found i could also get a better deal elsewhere.
You will have to be persistant with them though as they "closed" my complaint twice.
The two letters they sent me directly contradicted themselves too - which makes it even more ridiculous.
Sadly all the people that don't know about this have probably made this dubious practive worth their while.
Still if i ever get down DD's part of the world i suspect i owe him more than a pint.

Hi,
I found out today that the latest Sign Online v14 tariff has done away with the two tier pricing model and thus no more 'sculpting'. There's a single price per unit per fuel and a standing charge. I thought I'd share that here since I'm guessing that others like me might be following this thread.
Given that we've just started the 882 units/month high sculpting months this might be a better tariff to move to, if you are still sticking with npower.
Cheers,
