More reminders in Times Money today ....
"Ofgem must also get tough. As a first step, the regulator, described as a “toothless tiger” by MPs this week, should force npower to refund the millions of customers that appear to have been overcharged. After pressure from Times Money, Ofgem is now investigating. We await the outcome with interest. The impending energy crisis looks dangerous, but casualties can be minimised"
I have put my complaints in to npower and ofgem, what do others think about switching away, is it a good idea to stay until this mess is sorted out, or go now? I'm into a second year until March 2009.0 -

I do not see how what they have done cannot amount to a criminal offense.
Surely it should be the police who are looking into the matter, not some
joke of a 'regulator'.
Surely I can sue at least for my money back?
What is the world coming to if they can get away with a scam like this?
I will never go back to Npower, as far as I am concerned the directors should be behind bars.
And Meggsy I cannot believe you are still with them, I would not go back if they were giving their gas away free.
The idea that you should have to stay with a company which has cheated you to get justice cannot be right.
If I ran the country they would be rotting in jail by now. (And I will be up for election at the next general
election!!!!!!!)0 -
"After pressure from Times Money, Ofgem is now investigating".
If Ofgem had to be pressured into investigating this they should all be sacked.
However it is the police who really should be investigating this.
There is something seriously wrong with this country if they are not.
In my opinion these 'regulaltors' are just there to con people into a false sense
of security about the companies they are dealing with, lets face it, if the regulators were
actually doing their job, they should have pulled them up on this a long time ago.
I do not see what they did cannot be fraudulent, maybe we need to sack all our
politicans too, you know the ones, those who tell your pay settlements must be
kept below inflation whilst awarding themselves £40,000 plus "no questions asked"
expense package.
The whole thing makes me sick.0 -

I've bailed. I figure that if they say they have to re-imburse us I'll be entitled whether I am still a customer or not as it is for past services. If I am wrong I'll be pleased not to have given them any more money and will hopefully be saving with my new provider.0 -

Sorry Anne3333 and meggsy, definately think esbo should become the newly appointed ombudsman, or next PM:D . Some great ideas for dealing with the npower scammers!:TSealed pot challenge no 5820 -
Ding Dong Round 3. Had a letter from Scottish Power to tell me that npower have blocked my switch to them. Would have been nice for npower to tell me that and also why. But then npower don't do nice do they.
Guess I'll be having a totally unproductive conversation with them tomorrow.
If they have lost me my fixed 3 year deal for no good reason then I'll have to consider suing them for that as well.
Guess I am such a valued customer that the retentive retards in retentions are now totally constipated and bloated with cunning stunts.0 -

How can they block the switch? Surely the only grounds are if you owe NPower a lot of money.0 -
How can they block the switch? Surely the only grounds are if you owe NPower a lot of money.
I was sent a bill covering 11th March to 1st April. This bill had been calculated incorrectly (too many high units 281 and should have been 184). I requested the bill be recalculated and sent to me. This was mid April. Six weeks later bill still not arrived. On 16th June Scottish Power supplied with final meter reading which they give to npower. npower block the switch. npower don't have the courtesy to tell me this. Today the reason they give is I haven't paid the bill from April and I owe them for gas from April to 16th June. That should be the final bill. So they say I owe combined on the two bills £149.00 odd. I asked them how they expected me to pay bills which I haven't received one of which should have been a closing account bill. Reply was you owe us so we block. I asked how they could justify the block for not paying bills they hadn't sent me and that they were blocking me as a result of their inability to issue bills, not my unwillingness to pay. Reply was,' you owe us we block'. So asked to speak to someone more senior and eventually talk to a supervisor who tells me their legal team is going to phone me. All this only took 45 mins.
So Cardew, that's how they block the switch. Fair doos. All anyone needs to do is determine the exact amount you owe npower at the date of switch, without having any bills from them and pay it and the switch will go as smooth as silk. Silly of me not to have known that.0 -
Hence i wrote the guide to switching away from npower, which is in this thread, prob about page 11
You should have followed the guide DD.
Anyway, moving on, you need to demand a D68 Flow, this reverses the block, the reason you need to state is that it was their inability to bill you.
As for waiting for the re-billed bills, check, possibly pay, and then lift the block, this will delay and very likely put back your switch dates, and your new provider will have to probably re-apply. Refuse this, as it is their fault, give your assurances that you will pay the bill (most especially stating that you do not wish to jeopardise your court case) which of course it wouldnt, as a guarantee, and reverse the block now !!
They did the same for me, just with assurances of paying alone, and yeah they screwed up the bills, hence they blocked me, or at least tried to
Also have a good moan at your new provider, how much hassle it is to switch etc.. you may get a good will gesture.0
