Can I use any Barclays branch to make BACS payment?

I live in university halls of residence, however I did not change my address with my bank. I am with Barclays and I need to make a BACS payment.
Can I use any Barclays branch to do this or do I have to go to "my" branch to do this?

i shouldn't think it would be a problem to do with what branch you are registered at, but i have to say i've never set up an electronic transfer in a branch - do you have online banking? if you have that they you can do it all online yourself at any time without having to go to a branch (like with me at 1am when i realise it's the last day i can send my credit card payment!). might be worth setting up for the future. most students keep their 'home' address rather than give their halls of residence one - i'd recommend it as when you change addresses there is always a stupidly long delay when banks don't update it and information gets sent somewhere where no-one will forward it.:happyhear0

what exactly do you mean by a BACS transfer ..... most payments are bacs transfers.
if you write a cheque and have a paying in slip for the payee this will be a bacs transfer and can be done in any branch of your bank or you can use a blank paying in slip and fill in the payees details (but make absolutely sure they are correct) or do it online as already suggested.0 -
I mean electronic transfer. Im need to transfer money to one of my savings accounts at a different bank. Ive never used BACS before so a bit baffed. Ive already tried online, but I need to include a roll/reference number and I cant include it with Barclays online banking grrr.
The most frustrating thing happened today...I went into Barclays and asked if I can make a BACS transfer, but was told "NO!". They said they only do CHAPS for £20 fee in branches. I was mystified and called customer services when I got home, they said "You can make BACS transfers in branch....FREE".
I guess I'll have to give it another shot tomorrow.0 -
I'd disagree with you there CLAPTON, BACS is generally used to refer to purely electronic transactions without pieces of paper/cheques/etc. in the process.
Commonly used for batches of payments (eg. Payroll and Supplier Payments) but also popular for transferring money between friends, although these are often refereed to as Bank Transfers or similar, which may have been the confusion you had in branch.
If you've got an account number and sort code for your savings account you might be able to make the transfer with just those details - but I'm not 100% sure on that.0 -
enter the roll number in the reference field - see point 2 on here:
