US holiday in October/November

Hiya,
I'm thinking of going to LA from London at the end of October/beginning Nov, returning from San Francisco to London mid-Nov. Cheapest I've found so far is about £380 but it's with a stopover and it's with Delta Airlines. I've never flown to the US before so just wondered if anyone had any advice.

Can't figure out how to get online quotes if I'm flying back from a different airport. A friend's told me he got really cheap flights with BA last year about 2 weeks before he went (in November) and they'll have a winter sale soon. However, the travel agents I've spoken to say it's best to book now. And I've not even started to think about accommodation yet!!

Any help would be gratefully received, thank you!

    Expedia Multiple Destinations

    Also
Ring Trailfinders and tell them what you want.

Departures on\after 1st November will be cheaper (seasonal change).

    They would !
And I've not even started to think about accommodation yet!

If there are only two in your party then Priceline can get you some good deals.

Search the this forum for other tips on San Fran, LAX and other US flights + info on how to bid on priceline

    Hi Sheel

it all depends on what is important to you.

If you like, nice polite flight crew, modern planes, British biased stuff to read on the plane and don't mind being stuffed into your seat like a veal calf thrn BA is ok.

However, if you prefer extra leg room to stretch out and you don't mind hatchet faced harridans as flight crew, planes that have 'ahem' seen continuous service, American biased seat back fodder then AA is definitly the route to take.

Sheel, i'm sure that BA will do a great job for you - unless like me you're 6ft 3in tall and weigh 19 stone in which case it will be a flight from hell !

Enjoy the US (where are you going ?

Ba just put prices up fot Oct nov.
Last week single fare to san fran was £113 now £152
    Return now £408.inc taxes.

SFO is cheaper than Los angeles to fly to and you can drive down the coast to LA .
Better than driving up as sea is closer to you on right side of road.
Visit San Simeon for Hearst castle
Do not Hire car at airport as you pay facility fee of 3 to 5$ per day.

No drop off charges between depots in California
Have a great time and do not forget Vegas and or San Diego to visit

    Hi MTC

I'm 5ft 3in and weigh.....erm....quite a bit less than you and husband is 6ft and weighs about 14st so we should be ok , plus we're in WTP so will get the extra legroom and wider seats.

Didn't have much choice on who to fly with , it was either BA or United and I thought BA would be better going by what i'd read about United. We're flying to Seattle then driving up to Vancouver and visiting places such as Banff , Calgary and Kamloops , then back down to Yellowstone and ending back in Seattle. Then we're flying to Hawaii for 4 nights.

Sorry to op for hijacking your thread icon11.gif Can't help with Delta as i've never flown with them and it'll be my first long haul flight with BA , but AA and Continental are both good.

ditto to OP for hijacking the thread.

sheel - you lucky, lucky so and so !

I hope you've hired a big old car to drive you around - thats a lot of miles you're doing (why isn't there a smiley for green with envy ?)

  • Thanks everyone, and don't worry about hijacking the thread cos it's all v interesting! BA have just started their sale and I got a pretty good quote from them. I'm only 5 foot tall so I don't really think legroom on a flight will be a problem for me!

I'm just doing a few other searches - Virgin have got a pretty good price too but I'm looking around and plan to book tomorrow. Tis very exciting :-)

I'd fly direct to your destination to avoid immigration at the connecting airport, you might miss your connecting flight. I did it once, never again.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • As well as a thank you - this is really good advice as the immigration procedure really can drag on at some of the airports
