Halifax Easy Cash - Initial Problems!!! Thoughts...

If its cash your lodging, use the same day deposit envelopes or if your branch has one, an instant deposit machine. Don't use the ATMs as they are manually checked by branch staff the next day therefore the 2 day clearance of funds.
If you ask someone in the branch for a full run through of all the services they should help you and let you know the best way to use the account. The two best things I have done with my life

STOPTOBER CHALLANGE ... here we go !!0 -
I've recently opened an easycash account myself. I had to go through the rigmarole of paying some money in (even though it wasn't stated you had to do so anywhere...) and just used the deposit envelopes in branch. So long as you pay in before 4pm it should clear that same day (cash, obviously.)Worked fine and my account -seems- to be fully active now.
My only problem right now is that I cannot read the PIN numbers they've sent for my card. I've sat here and scratched at it and checked for hours. I see absolutely nothing at all. Holding it up to the light, holding it against something white...nada. I'm probably missing some trick, but I guess I'm going to have to call for my third pin reminder...0 -

You need to ring up and get a new pin number. This happened to me and sometimes they have a batch that just dont print the number. They do sort it our very qucikly.:j I have a persecution complex. Everytime I pass a shoe shop they persecute me till I buy them:j0 -
I am NOT a banking employee or such. But I had no problem opening my Halifax EasyCash acc. I did it ALL over the internet, & even transfered £10 from my RBS basic bank acc into the new one with no probs. & I have a stash of Express Pay-In envelopes in the drawer if anyone requires such for depositing via Express Pay-In unit.
I am begining to wonder if it is folks inability to read, the inability to understand English which is causing a lot of problems to do with these so-called "basic" primitive accounts???0 -
Hmm, the no counter facilities, and £5 for a new card where they've already issued 5 cards in the last 12 months looks pretty clear to me:
With respect to the eBay problem; there need to be cleared funds in the account so that the pre-auth £1 (that is never actually taken) can be earmarked.43580 -
They are a waste of space, they, next the good old faded out co-op bank are the few remaining who issue electron cards, pthhha, my experiences with HBOS are not very pleasant.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

few remaining who issue electron cards
I've not really come up against any issues with using Electron cards, but it does seem that a lot of people look down on them... which amuses me.
In a lot of European countries, many banks only issue Electron cards as debit cards, and indeed some banks issue Electron branded credit cards. It's just because UK banks have chosen the brand because of the automatic on-line authorisation for basic accounts, and those under 18.
Lloyd's TSB and the other banks that issue "full" Visa Debit Cards on the accounts are only giving a solution to the acceptance problem... the cards are still authorised on line. That said, if the merchant acquirers included Electron acceptance along with the Visa brand, such as in Australia, we wouldn't have ever had any problems with the Electron cards in the first place.
It will be interesting as Visa have announced a pan-European debit card called V-Pay, which Streamline (NatWest) have signed up to accept. I'm sure it won't be long before Visa-Debit and Electron are replaced with V-Pay.43580 -

That’s as maybe, but I was stuck with an electron card for years, I could only shop in major retail outlets because most other places don’t accept them, I couldn’t use my card on the train, in the train station, in the local petrol station or the cinema etc etc, I hold a basic account with Lloyds tsb and a full current account with A&L, the difference since I ditched the electron and the Halifax is wonderful, I can now go where I want and not be worried that I will get stranded somewhere because my debit card will not work.

Indeed, I wouldn't leave home without a Visa credit card to back up the Electron, but my point is that it's not the card that's the problem - it's the merchant acquirers not selling the benefits of card acceptance to retailers, and retailers by not adding the card to their systems. IMHO, if they take one Visa card, they should take 'em all.
Interestingly, I've found that the card is accepted at more places than I thought. I used a parking meter today that had Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and Solo shown on it, but not Electron. I stuck it in anyway and it was accepted. Pays to try43580 -
