Halifax Easy Cash - Initial Problems!!! Thoughts...

Having realising all I can currently get is a basic bank accountg due to shocking credit problems, and after using an old Barclays Savings Account (no Debit Card, have to use Barclays machines etc) I decided to get myself into gear and sort myself out an account...

After being turned down at the 11th hour for the Natwest Step Account with Solo, (I must be one of the few), I was delighted to recieve an EMAIL informing me of my initial log in details for my Halifax and BOS Easy Cash Accounts, (not realising the connection I'd applied for both in an online in a fury of applications one evening). So clearly I asumed I had been acepted for the Halifax Easy Cash Basic Bank Account x 2.

By the end of the week I had recived my two Visa Electron (Yes with the new logo that makes it look like an actual VISA card and not its poor cousin) debit cards, pins and full internet capability. Great, so I phoned up the number on both debit cards to register, I was told all was done, and the accounts and cards we're active and live.

My wages won't go in until a further two weeks, so I though I would finally attack my stack of items foer Ebay. I registered with Ebay and Paypal, then wrote out my first ad. Then I had to confirm how I would like to recieve payment and how I would pay their niminal fees, of couyrse I chose one of my eash cash accounts (it stated the accept Vidssa Electron.... "Your bank has refused this" So I tried card/account 2, same still.. SO I call up Halifax..

Apparently all my account shows is that i have APPLIED, and it is by no means a bonefied up and running basic account... I waas kold to try and deposit £10 in a halifax branch tomorrow and then use the in-branch phone to become fully registered, I was then issued in a rather stern voice that: "THIS WILL BE THE ONLY TIME I AM TO USE THE COUNTER ,ALL OTHER TRANSACTION MUST BE VIA THE NET, PHONE OR IN-BRANCH MACHINE"... A little annoyuing being classed a second class citizen, but the attitude was shocking... I was also informed that any payment I had made to go INTO my bank account would not be honoured, untgil I did this Fking £10 deposit process. I hadn't put any through as yet but am damn annoyed in case I had... Wages etc.

SO, now... I am begining to worry, she refused to admit whether I had DEFINATELY got the account(s) and all she kept saying was to try this.

NOTHING in the T&Cs state a £10 deposit MUST be made to fully open the Easy Cash Account, so am damn worried, also appauled at this confusion..

Oh and finally I got "No SIr most people don't have trouble with beginning this account, its all relatively easy"

Easy? I don't know where the hell I stand, as I am sure she was fobbing me off.....

  • Oh hec!! Myself and my husband have just applied for one of these accounts with the Halifax. Surely if you have got the Electron Cards in your possession with account numbers, pin numbers etc. the account has been setup and ready to use pending you initial deposit. Are there no other numbers you can call to see what is going on.

Had one of these accounts (still got it but don't use it).

When we opened it (years ago) all cards etc arrived as yours have done but the account was not activated until we credited £10 and then it was all OK.

Bear in mind, this was before the Halifax withdrew counter services for Cardcash/EasyCash customers
  • Just had fun at the branch.. Under NO circumstances will a branch take over the counter payments on Easy Cash accounts, even when I argued I was assured several times by a colleague of hers in Customner Services they would not let me do it. So I used the in-store machine... It had better be credited this afternoon!!!

All strated off so well to... I hope this isn't a sign of things to come with Halifax as I NEED this account to run smoothly and as advertised...

Just my experience. I have had this account for about a year now and other than the "No counter" service *(which strangely enough I am able to use in one of there smaller branchesLOL) The account has worked brilliantly for me. No problems at all.
Good luck hope yours works out as well

When you register cards with Ebay and Paypal £1.00 is earmarked from the account balance to prove that card is legit, as you did not have any funds in this account, the card was refused.

The Halifax are a shower of b*****ds, I hate them with a passion, hence I moved my business to LLoyds and A&L, happy days are here again!

Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
  • Most accounts require credit now to be FULLY active, don't worry as my account works fine and to be honest using the machines is easy. Been with them for a few years now and miles better than Barclays and A&L...but its horses for courses I guess

  • Riiiiiight...

Having never had to use one of these 'inverted' cash machines before today, I now realise they are not processed the same bloody day. As I tried to make a minimal transaction to test what I thought would be a given, and had it declined!

Although my solitary tenner is showing up on my account (via net), the funds have not cleared!!! I'm used to handing over cash in branches being instant, i.e. you give them cash, and should you so wish you could pop outside and use their cash point and withdraw it.... This is a joke........... Can someone confirm that if not instant then money deposited into a cash machine (THE ONLY WAY WE CAN DEPOSIT MONEY) is actually not available after a reasonable period of time (for the counter staff to check those machines)..?

    Getting slowly frustrated here...........

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I opened an Easy Cash a/c last November, and so far have had no problems with it or with going to the counter if I have a query about it. Agree about having to deposit £10 to activate the a/c but I don't see this is a problem - I needed a basic a/c for obvious reasons and I don't know of any bank or building society that will allow one to open this type of a/c with zero deposit (although I'm sure someone will put me right if I'm wrong!).

My cash deposits always go through on the same day, I've paid in then gone home (6 miles) to move money on line, the money has been credited and I don't have any problem moving it.(Can't think why one would want to pay cash in inside the branch and take it out again instantly from the atm outside the branch... but to each his own).

Having got in a financial mess previously I'm just grateful to have an account, any account! In defence of my local branch only I have to say I can't fault them.

When opening a new account that has not been deposited in before, you CANNOT use the card (Visa, Visa Electron or Visa Devit) to add to a PayPal or eBay account.

If you try and add the card to PayPal, you will be told that your bank has refused the card and to contact them.

To make the card active, you must pay in some money, e.g £5.
This is because PayPal do a check on the card when added, and as there is no money in the bank account/nothing has been paid in, your bank refuses to let PayPal use it.

My Barclays and Lloyds card were not accepted until I paid in some money.

    :)
