Wescot have sent me a postcard and I need Help!!!!

Hi all, I hope someone can help me with their experiences of Wescot, I've googled them and not liked what I've found...
I got home today and I had a plain postcard addressed to "The Occupier" and asking me to contact Alen at Wescot on 01482 380680 with a reference number.
I have got absolutely no idea what this could be about, I have one debt with a DCA which I am paying quite happily (on my part at least, they think that I should be paying more than £25per week, like that's gonna happen!
)
The only thing I can think is that we rent and I know the previous tenant left debts because of the red letters arriving for her, I have just returned them to sender as I don't have a forwarding address.
I really really don't want to phone them, I have no desire to be spoken to in the very special manner that DCA's have!
My feeling is just to ignore them and wait for a proper letter, if they don't even know my name to put on the card, why should I respond?
Please can someone tell me what they think, I know I've probably answered my own question but a bit of back up for courage would be good! Sorry for rambling by the way!

I would wait till you get a proper letter, I wouldn't pay for a telephone call to any debt collecting agency whether it was my debt or not!
They are paid not to be pleasant on the phone.0 -
I agree.
Why the **** should you spend your money ringing them when they don't even have the decency to write a proper letter addressed to the person they are chasing.:rolleyes:Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Agreed
It's not addressed to "Dear Cabbagegrower" so I wouldn't do anything other with it other than use it to light a fire

thanks chaps, the other debt I have is with Regal Credit over a natwest overdraft (the s$*ds passed it to a DCA when it was within its limit!!) They don't have my telephone number and I don't intend to give it to them! I sent them £50 telling them that I would send them £25 per week thereafter, which I have done, and asked for their bank details so I can set up a standing order.
Their last letter back says that "No pre-set minimum instalment can be accepted. Please contact us to discuss your financial position so that an affordable repayment amount can be agreed" I'm going to send them another letter with my next cheque explaining that £25 per week is an affordable repayment plan and if they don't like it they should stop banking my cheques and take me to Court.
I think that's fair....
I would have thought it unlikely that Regal would have sent this debt to Wescot as I have made payments? This is the only debt I have that is "in trouble" the rest are up to date and have no need to be passed to debt collectors. I can only think that it is the previous tenant but I think you're right - I'm not wasting my money finding out!
thanks again,
however, if I do get one addressed to Cabbagegrower I will worry£15k of unsecured debt.....oh dear0 -
Could you not put the ref no up on here,a few hundred people ringing about the same thing could be interesting I wonder if the Monkies at Wescot fancy working abit of overtime."Life is short even in its longest days".0

If it was for you it would have your name on it so don't worry. If there's an address on the card return it to sender as well.0

Not in a million years, I'm sure your intentions are good, and I like the thought of making them work - but if one numpty from Wescot took the reference number and then reeled off my details to any dodgy person who stumbled across this thread where would that leave me?
On the other hand, if anyone did manage to get my details they would struggle ripping me off - there's naff all to have!
but thank you anyway!£15k of unsecured debt.....oh dear0 -

thanks daisykinn, I did think about scrawling a question mark on it and sending it back (without a stamp) it's handwritten and is very polite, I think they are going softly softly in the hope that people phone out of curiosity and then they can lay into them.
I'm sure it won't be long before I hear again - I'll see what turns up.£15k of unsecured debt.....oh dear0 -
on 13/2/08 i got a final notice from wescot regarding outstanding balance with abbey national bank account. i challenged this due to me reclaiming bank charges from them. i got a reply on 28th february 2008, with reference to the above account. in respect of your recent email to us outlining the dispute on the account, we have taken the decision to return the account back to abbey. you will receive no further correspondence from ourselves regarding this account. That i call a result,i have not heard anything from the abbey since. I have got a copy of my credit file from Experian and looked through it i found the part pertaining to abbey national,i defaulted on £238 on 17/02/07 this is less than wescot wanted, after reading it i find reference to Balance Satisfied. I hope that means that abbey have written it off as unrecoverable by them. The amount was for over draft charges but my account was clear at the time they forclosed it, because i am claiming back over £1600 in charges of which £238 was part of. My credit file was updated for the period to 20/01/08. does this mean that the abbey can no longer chase me for these so called charges.:rotfl:0
