Whatever happened to the Carbuncle?

Does anyone remember the Carbuncle? (have I spelt it right?). I haven't heard of them for years, those great big angry red sores that you had to put a kaolin poltice on to draw them. I don't know what made me all of a sudeen think of them but they seemed to be pretty rife in the 50's and 60's, have they disappeared along…

Good heavens! I'm glad my mother's old statute of Wintergreen ointment worked then :eek: . I had terrible chilblains as a child, really painful - but then the winters were so much harsher then - remember '62?
