You could lease a car on the Motability scheme, but worth remembering that you will only be left with your care component, the mobility component of the DLA will pay for the car. You will only need to worry about putting fuel in, everything else is covered under the scheme. Having had a relative use the scheme I would say you seriously need to weigh it all up, as once you take out the 3 yr lease you are stuck with it, it cant be cancelled. You also have nothing to show at the end of it, as the car goes back. They do another scheme where you pay your mobility component to them for 2.5 yrs and then own the car at the end, but it works the same as a bank loan and you get to pay for car tax, insurance, MOTs once they become due, repairs, new tyres etc. If you do decide to look at these options then remember that vehicles can be adpated to suit your needs, but you do pay for adaptations to be removed at the end of the lease.0

I spent about 2 hours the other day when we got the letter researching this. And thats why we decided to get the new car off our friends. My OH has worked on it before and did the MOT on it last year. It's absolutely sound as a pound.
Only if/when things get really tough will we consider the leasing option. At the moment, the car has everything he needs - room to move, space for his walking stick, side steps and grab handle to help getting in and out etc...
Maybe when his arthritis gets worse, we may need a more adapted vehicle...time will tell.;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0 -
My relative has a year left to go and wild horses wouldnt drag them into another lease lol. You sound like you have a good little runner there and by the time you need a different vehicle you may well be debt free/have savings and not have to worry about leasing a car

Definitely better off with this car then! Anything else you want thoughts on?

Hi just wondering can you claim DLA and work as well ?
How many hours are you allowed to work?0 -
you can claim DLA even if you are working as it is not means tested.
Throughout our claim when it was asking questions about movement etc, we specifically mentioned things his manager helps with and how he has an apprentice to help lift things.
So...they know full well that he is working.
We are doing nothing wrong.;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0 -
There used to be DLA if you werent working and DWA if you were, but I think they did away with that and its just DLA whether you work or not.
Have you applied for a blue badge yet? http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/MotoringAndTransport/DG_40010610 -
Yeah we got that before the DLA!
Nice to see the council actually want to help us for a change!
Apart from the old fogies who have a go at us for parking in a disabled bay and try to accuse us of using his grandfather's badge - until we show them the photo...it's alot easier.;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0 -
Ah bless the old fogies that have a go, I had that when I took my relly shopping at christmas! 2 couples stood chatting next to their cars, in disabled spaces, and I was waiting to go in and one woman yelled over that I couldnt park there as it was for disabled people, so I flashed the badge at them and smiled, they all huffed and got in their cars lol.0

I just went flippin mental the other month when we went to the Trafford Centre.
We pulled into a space in my car - which happens to look like a Mitsubishi Evo rally car - but minus the fuel bill, £29k price tag and group 15 insurance! LOL:T
This family got out of their car and stared and stared as we were getting out. OH got his walking stick out and put the badge in the windscreen and the woman was still staring. So much so that I asked her if she would like a photo because it would last longer.:rotfl:
I'm so !!!!!y it's untrue!;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)0
